i have no problem with a QB being mobile so long as he is smart and can read defenses, read coverages, read progressions, and do it all quickly.

i don't mind a QB who can run but i don't want it to be his greatest asset.

I agree which is probably why we WON'T go after a Vick/The Golden Calf of Bristol.

The one run Jake had was planned and it exposed a huge hole in the defense and even the commentators were saying so. Had we had a mobile QB running the show they could have exploited that enough were the defense would have had to soften up on Smitty and crew.

Even Henne was mobile enough to make a play that set up R. Williams TD run.

We love Jake but he was born with lead in his feet. He couldn't get out of the way of a dump truck going 5 miles an hour.

Im just saying with our current scheme, a mobile qb would be great. I dont want qb that only runs either. I would take someone with a decent arm and could scramble. JD has a horrible arm and cant scramble. I dont know how some can think that the mobile qbs available/soon to be availables, would not be an upgrade.

because the point of a new qb is to change the one-dimensionality of our team. I have no problem with a mobile qb, he just needs to be able to throw the ball.

These points sum it up. A quarterback with some mobility would be really nice, provided he can throw enough to keep defenses honest.

Can you imagine the Panthers with a mobile quarterback who couldn't throw worth a damn? That would probably make our offense one of the easiest to defend. Throw nine or 10 defenders in the box and you can now stop Williams, Stewart and [insert mobile quarterback here].

But seriously I have no problem with a mobile QB but he needs to able to lead and do all the things a pocket QB can do. We need a QB who can manipulate our own offense when he wants and make the defenses pay. Maybe we don't need the like of Peyton Manning but somebody like Carson Palmer would lead us to a SB easy. Tony Romo is an example of a balance between mobile and pocket passing. But Tony Romo sucks because he's a no balls candyass.

Steve Young, John Elway, and Roger Staubach might disagree with that assessment. I think you are confusing mobile with quarterbacks known more for running than passing. A mobile Quarterback who can also pick apart a defense with his arm is a lethal combination.

He was just as good a QB when he won three AFC championships in the 80's. Maybe even better. The team around him was better in the 90's though.

A lot of those pocket passers were mobile when they needed to be.
