Article: With their firing of Joe Brady, the Panthers find a new place to dump bad news

I have a feeling it was done earlier in the week and just happened to be announced yesterday. They said on the Quick Blitz podcast last Monday that something was going down because Steven Drummond was on the call during Rhules press conference and he's never on the call unless changes are happening.

This is absolutely correct. Never equate the announcement with the decision. The latter was made a week ago.  Then comes the “replacement” discussion, along with developing a communication strategy. Once everyone is ready, you make the announcement.

The firing of Brady surprises no one.

Waiting a week into the break to do it does suggest some sort of disfunction within the organization.

basically it means Rhule fought it and Tepper kept hounding him. Which also doesn't look good on Rhule. Tepper could pull a Rivera if we get spanked this weekend.

I assume it was decided earlier and someone decided to hide their shame...If not, JFC we are in for worse people. The possibilities on that side are frightening.

Either way, I expect at least a mild pooshow moving forward. And that includes the easiest game they could ask for coming out of a bye.

In this day and age, no one can keep news from getting out. Someone was going to leak it the moment it was done, whether it was a minor functionary of the team or even Brady himself.

This has all the trimmings of a "Hey, come in for Sunday lunch with me, I want to run something by you" kind of call from the boss. Brady probably didn't know what hit him, just a quick 10 minute speech and someone escorts you out with a box full of your possessions. Probably just Rhule, Brady, an HR person and a security guard in the building, that way the team could handle the release of the info. Also, they picked a time when all the big NFL rumor guys have already done their jobs and are digging into the games.

Total dick move, but a calculated one. It also means, I think, that Rhule didn't know what he was going to do until say Saturday night. That may mean Rhule was holding out for either Miami or Oklahoma before having to go back in a cut a sacrificial lamb to save his job here. There are still openings out there and he may still have his agent working on the downlow.

Hopefully his agent will be as successful in selling Rhule to a college team as he was in fleecing us.

They suggested that it was a mean spirited firing for the way the Panthers handled this.

The Carolina organization has been VERY good at mean-spirited releases and firings under the Tepper regime, see: Cameron Jerrell Newton as the primary example.

1st time in NFL history a coach was fired 20 minutes into the gameday start. Its like they dont have a clue....

The correct way would be fire Joe Brady Sunday night and announce it Monday, who cares about bad press?? Give Joe a shot at a good job in college and the current coaches a head start on figuring out the offensive plan. Rhule fuged it up just like the QB situation.

...not during the NFL season. It's not a 9-5 job

True, of course the obvious that they get paid millions, they also have an off-season.
I just know that line could've been taken out of context.  You never know what was going on for Joe at the moment, or how it was framed and he just couldn't make it.

....or he just wasn't dedicated.

    • NFL Pro has the All-22 up already 😄 Going to grab a play or two from each redzone series to put screenshots to. Looks like AT angled his route off to the near pylon rather than the back corner where Bryce was throwing to. I imagine this is something they'll quickly try to figure out with Thielen back from IR. After watching the All-22 again, this was actually a pretty nifty play. I thought it was a TE screen to Tremble because of the way XL charged the DB, but he quickly shed and kept upfield as seen in the second screenshot. This looks like it had multiple layers built into it with AT running the crosser, XL the fade, Tremble to the flat. The progression would call for the play to go to Chuba here as the LB does follow Tremble out into the flat. Ball hits Chuba low and in the hands, but the LB does a good job disrupting the catch.
    • The bottom lines to me are that a) we played well enough to beat the best team in the league and b) Bryce Young is growing into a bridge QB role (his ceiling) for us. As much as I don't want BY around after the season, it seems DC can still build the O with a game manager at QB for now. Best case scanario, we can build the D through the draft this year and take a QB we have conviction outside the 1st this or next draft. If BY keeps improving, we are going to win a couple more games this year.
    • Bryce has been a completely different QB since coming back. That started in Denver where it was obviously he was playing a lot more loose and willing to push the ball downfield  Bryce continues to build off of the previous weeks performance and that’s what you want to see Bryce has been making some real good anticipation throws. Reading defenses well. Pushing the ball downfield (7 throws of 20+ air yards yesterday. 8 if you want to include PI to Thielen). The deep ball accuracy has been there. Some of Young’s best throws yesterday were incompletions. Sideline balls to XL and Moore both should’ve been caught. RZ dot to Tremble should’ve been caught. And another RZ ball to Moore that Young gave him a chance at. Bryce is starting to execute Canales offense and yesterday Canales finally opened it up a bit. Canales was to blame for the 126 passing yards in Germany as he played a more conservative game.  The next bit I’m looking for his for Young to be a bit more decisive with running the ball. Start putting that on film and it’ll help open things up a tad
