2010 Coach/Coordinator options

First and foremost let me say I have been a Carolina Panthers fan since inception in 1995. I attended UNC-Charlotte and remember how uptown was packed when we beat the Eagles to go to the Super Bowl in 2003 and remember the heartbreak of seeing Vinateri win the game. Watching this season its pretty obvious and a popular thought that Jake, John Fox, and Davidson HAVE GOT TO GO.

I personally would like to see Bill Cowher coach us but I am hesitant about changing to a 3-4 scheme. We have LB talent to do it but we have spent so many draft picks on DTs this year it may be a setback. With all this said which coaches (and coordinators) are available to take our team to the next level as is (minus Jake)? I hear Leslie Frazier from the Vikings will be a hot interview again in the offseason so what about him and maybe Charlie Weis?

I don't think we have a west coast offense so Holmgren is out. Shanahan would be NASTY with out RBs in a zone blocking scheme and knows how to get the best out of a QB. I don't know if Jerry will spend Cowher/Shanahan money though so what other head coach/coordinators combos do you guys like?

glad you started off by clarifying your status as a panther fan with history. without your "first and foremost" opening paragraph i would have thought you were just another bandwagon fan.

but to the point.... no on cower. defensive minded. we have meeks.

yes on shanahan and a new QB. we could use a flacco style young QB and allow our running game to dominate with having a capable QB when needed.

Cowher has very strong ties to North Carolina. He actually has a house near where I live. I think he would be a good fit here, I wouldn't be suprised at all if we pick him up this offseason in the event that Fox is out.

Ps. If you want to request the man as our coach please spell his name right. Thanks!

I like Cowher, but I'm hesitant to bring him in at this point. He coached the Steelers for a loooooooooong time and when they finally won a championship he stepped down. I know he stepped down in part to spend more time with his family, but I have a hard time believing he will be able to re-kindle the same passion and desire he had as coach of the Steelers. Bottom line is that I'm concerned his heart just wouldn't be in it.

Personally, I'd like to find someone young and hungry - I'd like to find the next Bill Cowher.

Word. Cowher might been successful with the Steelers, but that doesn't mean it will be the same way for the Panthers. Plus, we would have to get rid of Meeks. I want Meeks to stay, 'cause our defense is doing better under him & hopefully be even better next year if he stay & has more control on doing his play calls.
