There is literally no argument against the CMC deal being a bad idea. None.

What is worse is that all the hand wringing about CMC holding out seems comical now. We literally had no reason to sign that extension when we did. Had we not.....we probably don't give him that contract at all.

CMC + Shaq's contracts were vintage Hurney, that's for damn sure.

As much as I hate to say it though, we're not in as bad of a situation as a lot of folks might think initially. Next season, imo ofc, is the only real "sunk" season in regards to the cost of CMC's deal (especially if his current availability holds up). If he gets anything like what he had in his last couple of seasons with Rivera, then we get away with one there. If it's same as it ever was, then the Panthers can cut him and save $5M or look to trade him to a team that has the room to absorb the contract to go with their need at RB. Tough sale there, ngl...

It'll be very, very interesting seeing how Fitterer handles Shaq & CMC's deals. If the current staff continues to decline, I can see him just blowing the whole thing up. I think that the pressure is on Rhule to put together 3 wins out of the final 5 games... It's hard for me to see Tepper being okay with anything less unless we're competitive in all 5 games with bad breaks hitting us at the worst moments.

I'm not a fan of drafting RB in the first round.

The only thing I hate more than drafting RBs in the first round is extending a RB having one of the highest paid RBs in the league.

We did this dance with Double Trouble.  You don't build NFL teams with RBs anymore.  Yet we did it again.

Who ran the ball down our throats for Washington? A converted WR.  You get an OL.  You can find a RB.

I love CMC, but as you said the running back doesn't matter with a crap OL. Calling our OL crap is a huge understatement. I don't understand why we don't invest in OL, it was a major factor in Cam's injuries and here we're seeing it again.

Skill players are useless when you can't win the battle at the line of scrimmage. The games are won and lost in the trenches.
