Their failure to roll the dice on a rookie QB makes me wonder if Joe Brady was the one that was hesitant to work with a rookie. Maybe his lack of experience made him want to work with a QB that already had some experience. I don't know. But it doesn't make any sense. Especially in the 2021 draft when you had two QB prospects that were worthy of the pick.

I don't think you ask for "final say on personnel" when you are getting hired and then hand over QB personnel decisions to an OC you don't have any ties to.

At the end of the day, personnel decisions are all Rhule. Coaching decisions are all Rhule. The decision to hire Rhule.....all Tepper.

This can also be compared to the military, where I spent 25 years. Everything starts and stops with the top, If a command is under-performing it’s due to a lack of leadership at high levels. At least 90% of the people I worked with and supervised wanted to do a good job, and with good leadership they did.

Had we gotten Stafford or Watson, much of this bemoaning is taken care of.

We didn't.  But that doesn't mean we won't try like hell again this offseason...one thing is a proven here, they will keep trying until the QB they want is in place.

I expect a hard push for a franchise guy this offseason....again.

I think that depends on how Cam looks the rest of the way. He's not 2015 Cam, but with barely any time to learn the playbook, he's already looked better than anyone we've had at QB since... Cam Newton.

I do have to say that I think the CEO/executives of a large company have way more to do with a company’s success than an NFL owner. Sure, there are meddling owners that can impact things but let’s be honest, many CEOs are people who founded the business or turned the company into what it is. NFL owners are typically not people who came up the NFL ranks. They are guys and gals who made their money elsewhere and bought the team.

The reason I say this is because outside of making the right hires, I think the coaching/GMs have way more sway over the team than the owner does. Since Tepper can be thought of as the evil rich guy, he’ll likely get a lot of flak but he’s a glorified cheerleader most of the time. He’s not preparing players for the game or setting defensive alignments. He may yell and give ultimatums like we are talking to Cam because our QBs suck, but we didn’t draft Fields. Again, owners can meddle and Tepper may, we don’t really know but I think coaching/GMs should be the top concern. Tepper being a hedge fund guy is not who decided to sign Teddy and then Sam. He may have forced Rhule’s hand on Cam but the team is where it is right now because of Rhule, Hurney and Fitterer. Hurney might not have had much of a role outside of his classic 2018/2019 drafts either, might have been all Rhule.

NFL teams have historically operated more like mom and pop shops than fortune 500 companies.

I would wager, there are a lot of owners closer to the mold of Jerry Jones, Dan Synder, etc. than most realize.   They just don't seek the limelight and wish to be the face like them.  But behind the scenes?

I mean, look at Jerry.  Publically, he looked like an old man that rode in golf cart looking at his toy investment.  And a camera would occassionally pan to him looking like he might fall asleep in the box.  He made a point to rarely talk to the press and have his name in people's mouth.  But behind the scenes? Jerry was a very impactful.  Not just with his team but the league.   And a massive part of Hurney's blunders that he takes all the blame for.....were simply doing what Jerry Richardson laid out.   The turning point in Hurney's GM job was around the lockout time.  That was JR IMO more than Hurney.

Good news? It seems to suggest we’re not totally off base with some of the threads we have going on around here.

"i talked to a guy for 3 minutes got told "it could be this or may be that" and have come to the conclusion that our angry takes might possibly be right or it could be literally anything else.

it's one of the two."

Agreed. If his shoulder holds up down the stretch we have to bring him back. Even if we plan on drafting a QB in the 1st.

    • The other draft picks have turned out pretty well. Brooks will too.
    • I'm still not touching Hunter He again said the other day that he plans on playing both sides of the ball in the NFL.  If he is allowed to do that, he won't be as good on either side as his potential and he's going to have serious injury issues and have a short career.  If he's not allowed to do it, I think he's going to become a problem when the team isn't winning as he's going to feel him not being used on both sides of the ball is why. He's being coddled in that environment with Deion and I think it's doing a disservice to him to prepare him for life in the NFL where your coach isn't a 2nd father to you, to where you can just walk into his locker room and steal his shoes like Hunter does to Deion.
    • He’s a tad behind them. Around 15ish of 32 starters in the league. He’s well ahead of a lot of guys. Tua, Bryce, Cousins (present), Rodgers (current), Devito/Jones, Minshew, Russ (current), Watson, Smith, Carr, T Laws deep ball is weak as poo IMO, there’s plenty. And it’s not like everyone is ripping 60+ers. The key component is if you can rip and maintain velocity of the 30-40 yarders which he does super well. Legit every report out there from Brugler to PFF to PFN document him as good/above average arm strength.  Eye test tells me it’s pretty much that as well, slightly above average.
