Phil Snow’s defense isn’t equipped to defend the power run game

Teams that have stout O-lines annihilate us. As good as Reddick/Burns are, against mauling OTs they become pedestrian.

 

I know they like to use YGM and Fox to defend the run but it’s just not there. In the past this team had road grading LBs (Davis) to defend the run but guys like Carter just get eviscerated 

while we are all quick to praise Snow, his inability to game plan for WAS was pretty sad. You knew they only had McClaurin and Gibson but you just let that team own the time of possession and have their way

This is the truth

they need some more stout defensive linemen for games like this. Having a defense designed to chase the QB only works if the offense can take out the other team's running game.

You just listed what he had to work with for this match-up but expected it to go any differently?  News flash, we struggle against good running teams with big offensive linemen. We are built for speed but are light in the ass for power. Our ends are just not good against the run and the tackles can only do so much.

Yea you can't have Reddick and Burns both on the field at the same time as your base package. Burns especially gets ate up in the run and thats exactly where they attack in the power run game. They don't even bother testing the middle when they just know for a fact they can move Burns up and off the ball.

Have to have that as your pass rush but we need a DE on that side who can stop the run first but be a threat as a pass rusher.

If O-linemen are getting their hands on LBs as quickly as their were today, it doesn’t matter if Luke and TD were in. We saw it Luke’s last few years here. Gotta let the linebackers roam free to stuff the run

Again let's not be prioners of the moment.. With no offensive help for Atleast 6 or 7 weeks this defense has only been beat up like this 3x this year... Let's not throw out the baby with the bath water ..

Not every team is a power run team so this makes no sense.

Okay so still my point stands.. 

Reality check.. Not to many teams have done that to this defense and if only a few teams can.. Then what's wrong with that idea.. And Also even with this they barley loss to all those team except the Cowboys..

Do you see the reasoning in that??

We’re built to stop pass heavy teams, which this league is turning into to. Our defense did enough outside of stopping a couple of crucial plays on 4th and 3rd and long. D Jax got exposed, outside of that we did alright all around.

The way the D is constructed puts a lot of pressure on the interior line against the power run. For all his off field issues a thumper like Perryman would have been a huge help to alleviate some of that. That being said, Carter is not fast, explosive, or instinctive enough to be undersized and has no business being out there over someone like Luvu on rushing downs.

That should’ve been obvious to everyone here. When we play teams who know how to pound the rock we get obliterated.

Carter looked like a high school kid out there today just getting moved around with ease wherever the linemen wanted him to go.
