Would Trent Edwards Fit As Panthers QB?

Brian Brohm In, Trent Edwards On The Way Out Of Buffalo

It was reported today that when QB Brian Brohm was signed off the Packers Practice Squad, he signed a 2 year contract. This looks like "Brian Brohm is in, Trent Edwards on the way out of Buffalo".

The Bills have benched QB Trent Edwards, in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick (I don't think he's even a short term answer at QB), and Edwards isn't taking it well. He's refusing to talk to reporters about his demotion, and may be on the fast track out of town.

If Edwards is on his way out of Buffalo, he might be the type of QB John Fox likes.

I like Trent Edwards and I wanted us to draft him when he came out. I don't think he is the problem in Buffalo, but I don't care what John Fox likes, I want him gone.

I would welcome Trent Edwards as the Panthers QB because he's smart and is a good decision maker. He's also accurate, completing 65.5 percent of his passes last season.

My only concern would be his durability, but at 6'4" 231 lbs he should be ok with the decent OL of the Panthers.

Trent Edwards was a 3rd round pick by Buffalo in 2007,so he has some experienmce and would probably excel if he could get out of the circus they call a football team in Buffalo

If he's so good, why would the Bills even consider letting him get away? The Bills were touted as playoff contenders by some before this season started. They looked good against NE until the final 2 minutes in their season opener. Maybe a new address will be good for him, but is that address in Charlotte? Given how Jake hasn't really progressed a whole lot in his mechanics since he's been here, it's fair to ask if we have anyone at present who can properly develop a young QB? I'd look at him before I'd look at, say, Brady Quinn, but as I said, if he is considered to have such great potential, why would they let him go?

If I was to take a chance on a young QB already on a roster, I might take a look at those who back up Brady and Peyton Manning. Those teams have special QBs, and it's no acccident, they obviously know how to get the most out of them, and developed them properly. Maybe someone who has been there and around those 2 guys and their coaching staffs will have enough in the way of established fundamentals that they are worth a look. It's no less a gamble than drafting a QB, or signing a FA, if our team feels that we need a new QB!

I love all these threads where people offer up QB ideas and they're all garbage: Edwards, Campbell, Thigepen, Pat White, Quinn, etc. Why don't we set our goals a tad bit higher? And no, don't ask me how we could get a QB like that. It just depresses me to think McCown, Trent Edwards, or freakin' Brady Quinn is the future of this team.

all i ask is for people to have a little higher standards.

a big fat NO!!!!!! on edwards.

i don't care if he is or isn't better than jake. if he is, it's like people saying don't be upset about the direction the panthers are going because at least they aren't the bills or the browns or the raiders.....

    • Here is what I think (and I agree):  They like ILB and Rozeboom is good depth.  Cherelus was solid for a reserve (PFF score 63.8 in 158 snaps).  They like what they have seen from Ransom and Richardson at S so far, so we could have 3 starting-caliber safeties--no sense burying the young guys.  (I think we are going to like our Safeties as they are--I also think we will add one of our UDFA with great ST abilities.  They signed some really good athletes as UDFA safeties).  I just do not see Scott making the roster if they watch any of his 2024 film. At CB, they think they have 3 with two who played a little bit last year (each had fewer than 35 snaps--they held their own--both scoring in the upper 50s on PFF).  I think, if we add a player, we add a young CB much later who was cut during the preseason.  I believe they want a preseason to see what they have in Bartholomew and Evans and Thornton, for that matter.
    • Think he'd likely take from Wallace not Jewell.
    • AND if you are looking for reasons NOT to sign him, here are a few:  "Germaine Pratt has faced criticism for his performance, particularly in coverage and tackling, despite his high tackle numbers and turnover-generating ability. He's been described as struggling to cover ground in a nickel base (Hmmmm.  Wonder if we play that?) and having an aggressive play style that can leave gaps in the defense. Additionally, there were criticisms about his missed tackles and poor angles in pursuit, particularly in the 2024 season"     Don't get me wrong--his stats are impressive.  This must be a move to get a certain Edge player signed.
