It was more of a "don't live in the extremes" statement.

Most are very happy with a new start for the Panthers who look like a totally different team than they did the first 3 weeks.  The first 3 weeks, Terry Bradshaw was talking all pro for Sam as was the Huddle.  Extreme talk after just 3 weeks, then, we are at a place now where we want him to find a job at Dollar General by next weekend.  This is the Huddle and the way it operates.

Cam by the same token is being hailed as the 2015 MVP again here in 2021.  Today he gets to play behind the "less than" all pro offensive line.  I did mention that he seemed inspire them to play better than the last few weeks and hoped for the best today, but I generally don't swing as quickly from trash heap, fire everyone talk to the Super Bowl bound talk.  That is more fandom talking than football knowledge and still centers about the shortcomings of our Oline.  Personally, I don't think we can make an all pro line out of what we have on the roster, but could be surprised.  Having Cam and CMC on the field will make a big difference in how defenses have to play us.

If it goes bad today, the fans will go from Super Bowl to hating everyone again.  I generally stay away on Sunday evenings post game on the Huddle.  Glancing at the headlines is quite enough, haha.

If we win today, it will be "playoffs, sign Cam to 5 year extension, etc, etc.

If we lose today, it will be, Oline is terrible, let them work with Sam at Dollar General, cut Cam, fire Rhule, and Brady, etc, etc.

You cannot win in any of those threads.  Cams shoulder and the Oline will be the things I watch today.  Other than that, we should be good.  IF CMC pulls another muscle, not sure what to do with him.  They both need to be on the field

Every fanbase in the NFL whose team isn't a perennial contender has these highs and lows. If it bothers you that much don't read the content.

Its much easier reading things before the game rather than during and especially after.  But point taken

according to teh huddlez, you get one year to do more than work the fry station, or that’s the peak of your potential. imagine if those complaining about sam lived under the same scrutiny.

He's guaranteed 18 million dollars and he may not even have to play another snap here. Pretty sure anyone here would be willing to suffer through scrutiny for that much cash. He isn't a low wage worker big guy.

Rhule believes he can develop Sam. I believe him. Until CMC went down, and the oline failed to protect him, he was showing confidence, and improvement.

I don't blame Sam for the regression. The line couldn't protect him, and receivers were dropping passes.

Just like Rhule hasn't given up on his development, neither should you.

Delhomme was how old when he became a competent NFL starter?

I'm not claiming Sam is the answer. Just saying the team and the coaches have an investment in him, and are going to develop him as much as they can to get a return on their investment.

I wish PJ walker was given this same leeway.

His development is over. He’s been in the league 4 years. He is who he is, a decent backup.

Sam isn’t an NFL caliber player. I don’t know how many chances he needs to get that through the NFL’s thick skulls. He was a jittery turnover prone QB in college and he hasn’t changed at all. He has all the physical tools to be a great QB but he just can’t make the right decisions on a consistent basis and his mental fortitude to bounce back from a bad throw or a bad game just isn’t there. He compounds his failures and just gets worse.

See ya on the bench making a nice salary the rest of your career and maybe see you in spot duty for the Bears or something in 3 years Sam. Thanks for the bad memories.

It also helped last game that the center wasn't being pushed back into the pocket.  I don't know if the Arizona D just sucked, but you didn't see the center going backwards immediately after the snap. There are very few QBs that can be successful when the pocket collapses like that.

Yeah Paradis was very bad. But do you know what else helps? Not throwing into double triple and quadruple coverage.

Is he though?

Honestly, I'd rather have a conservative game manager type at QB who you could at least fairly reliably trust not to go out there and lose the game. Just hold down the fort. I agree that Sam is who he is. He was always boom or bust. He'd either clean up his turnovers and inconsistencies or he wouldn't. Well, he didn't. He's just a flat out bust.

After his years as a NYJ Sam required an extended rehabilitation, preferably with a team where he could sit behind an accomplished veteran for a year or more. Darnold may never put it all together mentally, but expecting him to turn it around in the span of one training camp was never realistic.  He needed the Jim Plunkett treatment.  A QB who was in the league for 16 seasons and had his greatest success in his final 8 years as a Raider after sitting behind Ken Stabler.

When Jim Plunkett came to the Oakland Raiders in 1978, he was beaten up physically and beaten down mentally after seven seasons with the New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers.

Nobody who saw him would have believed that he would quarterback the Raiders to two Super Bowl victories in the coming seasons.

Managing General Partner Al Davis signed Plunkett and told him to simply take care of himself for a while and he didn’t even practice with the team at first because they were set at quarterback with Kenny “The Snake” Stabler and David Humm.

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
