Even if Cam is just a functioning role player in this offense that's a million times better than what we had.  Especially with an aggressive defense that can give him favorable field position.

This. It’s what we’ve been screaming about for weeks with Darnold. If we had competent qb play we’re stacking wins going into the hardest stretch of the season. Cam doesn’t need to be Superman anymore.

He can still do it on occasion, not sure he'll be able to even attempt it in week 18.  My biggest concern about Cam is his shoulder and whether it can hold up throwing 25 - 35 times a game.

Remember that time you posted a thread about cam needing to retire and being an embarrassment because he posted a video with him and his dad.

It's definitely going to be something to watch. While Cam has the added benefits of his wheels that Teddy didn't have, we have seen what a limited deep ball does to this offense (and the fan base).

My hope is that we see the opposite of what we saw in Cam's last couple of seasons here in that rather than his shoulder declining (or waiting for it to decline) we instead see him get more and more comfortable.

Strange. I was under the impression that his shoulder was toast and he no longer had a deep ball. That throw actually eased my concerns. He wasn’t shotputting the ball like he has the last few years post-injury. Much more zip and spin on that pass. That looked more like vintage cam. His deep balls have always been pretty low-trajectory and his accuracy has never been great.

luckily our running game has been looking improved. Both Abdullah and Chubba have been fine in spurts releiving CMC and Royce Freeman as an emergency.  Hopefully we can keep Cam's shoulder mostly rested and on a pitch count.

Cam isn't Super Man anymore. He's our Clark Kent now and he's already buying into that role.

It is a concern though. We can only hope we manage it well.

Could be a number of things, but if you're expecting 2015 Cam back you're going to be sad.  In looking at Cam's tape from last year, he can still get you the 40-50 yard ball if he can set and throw.  But he can't make the 60 yard falling backwards pinpoint bomb.

This is a different Cam physically.  We need to care for him.  We need to use him to his strengths and not overuse him.

You mean like... in contrast to the way we treated him his entire career here prior that left him a shell of his true potential and stuck struggling to win a starting job at 31 when most former MVP QB's are guiding their teams to the playoffs year after year at that age?

I don't want to be the dude raining on yesterday's parade, and I am thrilled that Cam is back in the fold, but if I were a betting man, I would not bet that he will recover the ability to consistently make that throw at this point in his career. I would love to be wrong about this, but my gut says that it won't take teams long to figure out he's viable primarily as a running threat and for short throws. How he and Brady react and adapt will likely determine how viable he stays in the mix here.

I hope like hell that even if it's only as a backup he's worth keeping long term because it's so obvious what he brings to the team in terms of energy and leadership. We watched our D absolutely dismantle one of the best offenses in the league yesterday, and a big part of that was the energy they played with compared to the past month. If I'm wrong and he's able to recover starter form...wooo eee maaaan, look out! You don't wanna have to tangle with us anytime soon.

I watched a replay. After DJ gained a step on the DB, the DB immediately runs afer DJ and grabs him with at least a full second and 15 yards before the ball lands.

The ball was a tad bit underthrown. Yet, I like that there was no hesitation in throwing the ball deep.

I also think DJ can do a better job of not indicating to DB that ball is coming his way. In the first 8-10 yards of the route, he is already turning his head to look for the ball.

It played a part in the DB frantically running after DJ and committing the PI.

His timing was jacked all game. Hence why he wasn't used very much. He might have to run with the 2s for a couple of weeks just to get back in rhythm. PJ was just as important for the win as Cam was simply because of that. He was super accurate with his throws most of the game.

That was a walk in TD with the right throw.

was that a miscommunication or did cam just throw a duck?

miscommunication is understandable. If that were the case it looked like cam should have thrown the ball sooner.

Or…..is his deep ball still toast?

That being said, it was still WAY better than any deep ball Sam has  thrown all season except maybe for week 1 when Robby was wide open.

Yes - I remember posting a thread and still think that video was the most cringe thing he has ever done.  I still don't think he can handle the load of being a starting QB, but he's on the team and will root for him to succeed and prove me wrong.  I have always been a fan of Cam (never a hater)  but that doesn't prevent me from being realistic and telling it like I see it.
