Its funny seeing John Fox dickriders and Delhomme apologists say we need to dump Steve Smith before he falls off. Oh the irony.

You won't hear that from a "so-call Jake apologist" like moi. I'm on the Smitty bandwagon since '03.

In fact, I will be so bold as to say this, even with Jake, if the team had that other wr they could still win a SB.

Probably true. I wish we has something in the calibar of Cards's WR corps. They have 3 great WR, while we have 1 or 2 whenever Moose is playing good despite getting older.

Honestly, the real problem is coaching (this includes scheme, not just the men behind it).

You could argue that Jake is one of the biggest problems, but I don't think that's the real problem. An "elite" QB would pull this team out of sub-.500, but he wouldn't take the team to the Super Bowl (as the problems are deeper than just one player).

I know that this is one of the best WR free agency pools in a while and that there is a decent class coming in this years draft, but to get rid of the top three WRs on the depth chart in one offseason?

That's a no-go bro.

Turn it around though.

Set aside Smith for a moment. Can you really make a convincing argument that Moose and Jarrett are valuable enough to this team to trust them as lynchpins of next year's receiving corps? Moose is old. Jarrett just doesn't seem like he's ever going to turn the corner. So what's the compelling argument for keeping them?

The only point of contention left is Smith, and he can be valuable if kept, equally and perhaps more valuable depending on what was offered via trade.

Yeah it sounds radical, but let's be honest. The status quo isn't working.

Of course, without QB change, likely none of this matters.

It has nothing to do with Fox or Delhomme. In fact, if Fox gets fired, what better way for the new HC to make a statement than to prove, without a doubt, that nobody on this team is untouchable? Plus, if I'm the new HC, I'm gonna want all the draft picks I can get my hands on so I can get my kind of players in here. This idea is not inconceivable at all.

I like Delhomme, but Steve Smith should retire a Panther, and Fox needs to go.

let Delhomme stick around for 1 more season while our Drafted QB can get a feel for the NFL.

(with a rookie starting the playoffs are out of question anyways- might as well not ruin the rookie in his 1st year)

if delhomme stinks it up like this season- YANK HIS ASS

But WE DAMN WELL BETTER DRAFT A QB

Steve Smith will probably still be here next year, but I still don't see why some people are getting so bent out of shape over the possibility of him being traded. For the right deal, it would be more than worth it, regardless of what happens to Fox, Hurney or Delhomme

Jake has proven he is untouchable. Everyone in and outside of Carolina knows this.

Steve Smith has earned the privilege of retiring a Panther. Whatever picks the Panthers would gain from trading him wouldnt compensate the fans, team interest, merchandise, etc they would lose in the process. Taking shortcuts to success is what got us in this predicament, you dont compound the problem by trading away your most important player. If we were the Pats or Steelers I wouldnt have a problem with moving him, because those organizations have proven they can fill holes and groom replacement. As of right now, this team has NO replacement for Steve Smith. Hell we're still tryna find Moose's replacement and its been 5 years! LOL. You want picks badly? poo, put Jon Beason on the trading block. He'd give you more value as he's younger is a current all pro and would be alot easier to replace.

that's why he's on a radio show. trading smith would be a dumbass move. cut delhomo, let pepp walk, cut jarret, and draft a QB/WR in the 2nd/3rd rounds. moose can stay or go, don't care. this draft should be all offense.

oh yea, fire fox.

Exact what should be done. You don't cut a weapon like Smitty and thinks some rookie is going to come in and take his place. Come in and be as good or better. NOT A CHANCE.

We need to give him a valid weapon beside him. Moose is just not consistently getting open to make defenses pay. We need a Deshawn Jackson type of receiver. Someone that can break it. I will guarantee there won't be 100% double coverage on Smitty if we have someone that will make a team pay for it. I would also use Barnidge more. Clearly a field stretcher.

Above all else. Sign Peppers to a long term deal or let him walk. Don't let him strap us again.

Go Panthers

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
