Whoa fellas, dont shoot the messenger, just asking! So keep Smitty how much longer then? He isnt getting any younger, why not shop him and try to get back in the draft, with a possible first round pick? Or keep Smitty, every year he gets older and his market value goes down...The good teams these days have a knack for cutting talent loose while they can still get something for them. As much as i hate to say it, the Patriots are the best at this, look at how many new players they have every year, yet they have consistently won games every year. I know alot of the is the systems they run on offense and defense, but look no further than the Richard Seymore deal to see where im going with this.

this-

We are DEEEEP with Goodson and Sutton

No need to keep 4 RB's

Stewart will get us back in the 1st round.

RBs to are too easy to find cheap for a team to give up much for one. The game is changing and QB/WR/draft picks are what it is about

If we make coaching changes and to to say a 3-4, then we will need 3-4 linebackers and such. Who knows what sort of Offense we would run. Oline, RB's, NT is about all that should be safe. Everything else could be replaced. And yes, Steve Smith is the only thing of value you have to get draft picks or trades. He is getting older and everyones favorite, but in a couple more years, he will draw very little attention on the trading block.

also, the Patriot analogy doesn't work.

The core of what makes that work is having arguably both the best coach and QB in the NFL. Brady can work with garbage. BB can take a Dwayne Jarrett, Kenny Moore, Sutton, or whoever and exploit the one thing they do well.

Fox can't.

Yup, trade the only proven weapon we have in the passing game - brilliant.

Here's an idea, how bout we get a QB that can get the ball to Smitty?

Well, it's not like Smith is gonna be making plays for much longer anyway. He won't be playing at 36 like Moose is, I guarantee you that. With all the good young WR's that are being drafted these days, it shouldn't be that hard to find a couple of them that can play, via the draft and FA. I would rather have 2-3 good WR's than one great one who is gonna be double and triple teamed all the time.

We are not deeeeeeeeeeep, what has Goodson done in a game besides fumble? I do have hope for Sutton but thinking someone would give us a first round pick for Stewart is out of their minds. RB is the easiest position to replace.

I think thats part of Carolina's problem, we create emotional attachment with certain players, and it hurts us in the long run. Alot of it is the coaching staff, but players get old, Steve Smith isnt gonna be around forever, what maybe 3-5 years? Our team has a history of holding on to players too long, while other teams like the Steelers, Patriots, and other top tier teams constantly shop players all the while staying ahead of the curve.

There is no way I get behind trading a young guy with his best years still ahead of him to keep an older guy whose best years are behind him.

Ahhhh-- So you would give up a legitimate threat that is in on every play over a kid who see's 15 snaps a game.

Smith draws double teams and has turned into one hell of a blocker.

He will be a threat for at least the next 4 years.

Stewart is very replaceable

The rest of you can stop posting now. We have a winner.
