Realistic Options at QB

We need someone who will be our long term guy at QB. That's why I like the idea of going QB with our 2nd rounder this year.

And what is Matt Moore, Father Time? He is only 25 yrs old. Most QB's especially round 2 and beyond are not starters right off the bat. Moore may not be the glamour pick but he has the tools. He has a winning record and should be given the opportunity.

What if? We give him the reins and he takes us to the playoffs or even the brink of the playoffs? Would you still want to draft a QB?

Makes NO SENSE.

Let the man play. If he fails then we know we need to address the issue in the Draft otherwise we have our QB for the future.

All im saying is, if he can't beat out McCown, then he obviously isn't that great.

"We" don't need to evaluate him. He needs to convince the people that do need to evaluate him that he deserves a shot by showing them on the practice field. He obviously hasn't done that which leads people to conclude that he must be a lesser option to Delhomme. In other words, he sucks.

Yes because we all know Fox isn't stubborn and wouldn't hesitate to put in a better player

Not saying for certain that Moore is the better player, but we just don't know do we? As a fan I am all for seeing Moore as the starter from here on out. We need to evaluate the QB position, see what needs to be done for next season.

OK lets retrack here. As you know Fox and Hurney have always like MoCown and wanted McCown before he went to Miami but at the time we didn't have the money or spot for him. He is more experienced and probably performed better than Moore. That isn't to say MOORE SUX. Since McCown isn't on the active roster what do you do. Just say F_k-it and let Jake finish out the year? Makes no sense, you give the next guy in line (MOORE) the reins and see what he can do.

He might light up the NFL. He might be MOORE (pun intended) that anyone imagined and turns our offense into an unstoppable force even more dangerous than New Orleans. You won't know until you let him try.

All I am saying is, MOORE is #2, and he should be given the opportunity to start.

AT Least a few of us are on the same page. If Moore turns out to be a solid QB why would you want to waste a draft choice on a QB when we have other issues to address as well.

And who are the people doing the "evaluating"?...exactly

Coaches and staff, the folks that are paid to put the best folks on the field to help us win. Their job description doesn't include putting what they feel to be inferior players on the field just to prove their decisions to the fans.

"We" the fans do not need to evaluate crap when it comes to player talent and most don't know what to look for anyway. We may WANT to see him so we can get a feel for the future but, in this case, the people paid to decide have concluded that he is not the best option on the team. Their jobs are to make the decisions to win games. They aren't doing their job if they put an inferior player (in their view) on the field just so fans can see him play.

I agree with this. And for the record, we have a 7th round rookie starting, Fox is not afraid to use the young guys.

Don't you agree it is better to find out now, release him and find other options at QB? Or should we wait until Jake gets injured to find out MOORE isn't the answer? There is a reason we have him listed at #2. Now is the time to allow him to play and show us why.

No, I don't agree. That decision has been made. The reason that he's listed #2 is because he isn't as good as #1. Our #1 is playing like crap. Do you really want to see a player that's been determined to be worse (BY GUYS THAT DO IT FOR A LIVING) on the field?

Palmer is better though. But I don't see many USC QB doing that well in the NFL beside Palmer.

There are only 32 starting QB spots in the NFL. Palmer, Mark Sanchez and Matt Cassel are three, another year and you have to figure Leinart will be the 4th. Not bad for one College I guess, any other Colleges close to that number?????

Here's what my plan would be:

1) Nudge Jake into retirement in the offseason. If he refuses, then cut him.

2) Resign McCown and Moore, both to 1, maybe 2 year contracts.

3) Sign Troy Smith of the Ravens. (If you don't like Smith, then sign another free agent QB)

4) Draft the best available QB with our 1st pick in the draft.

5) Go into camp and have an open competition for the QB job between McCown, Moore, Smith, Feeley (if he's still under contract), and the draft pick. You keep the best 3 on the roster and cut ties with the other 2.

It's funny that people will STILL not believe John Fox commits to certain players no matter what. Didn't Fox "allegedly" tell Delhomme he would stick with him no matter what.

I think Fox knows how to evaluate talent when a position is up in the air like our 3rd CB, but not when it is a seasoned vet.

    • What's wrong with what he wants to do? Going to the wrong organization can ruin your career. Many of you would do the same if you could dor your son's.
    • I think they should just end the drama and tell him he's playing for his next team. Full stop. This week to week "do they, don't they", "will they, won't they" stuff is crazy.  Maybe Shanahan will trade one of their 3rds for him rather than pay Purdy the big dollars--he's certainly on the list of coaches I think would say, "They're just not using him right". Plus Lynch already knows the Panthers' price list. Bryce can head back home to California and Carolina can continue its neverending quest to replace Cam.
