I think the fact Cam is about to take over has charged PJ up to “prove it”. If that didn’t happen I doubt he would have this kind of showing. All his bad habits are still on full display right now.

PJ had this showing against Detroit.

He needs the week of practice, as he’s a rhythm QB. Not optimal for your starter, and it makes you a borderline backup, but he belongs in this league.

I don’t have unrealistic expectations. I just don’t want him to put the ball in danger. He stared down two WRs big time while they were double covered and got lucky only one became an interception. I’d be happier if he just used his legs? Got a few yards and got down over that.

PJ is trying to do too much which is being amplified by Cam playing well in his limited snaps. He wants to put good plays on film so he can have a chance to stay in the league. He has played better than the Cards backup has though.

He also has read the entire field on several plays, clearly looking for a deeper shot first, and then came back to secondary reads in the flats.  He is playing a great game, imo.  He isn't scared to take risks, and sometimes that can be a detriment, but if he can balance that out with more of those checkdowns, he's damn near perfect right now.  The ball placement and anticipation on the timing routes is the best we've seen outside of a few glimpses from Teddy since Brady became the OC.

PJ looks the same as last year but the offense is night and day with Darnold out of the picture and the whole team is vibing differently with the addition of Cam. You can tell what was lacking and it wasn't just turning the ball over the offense has a different energy on the whole. They are feeding off of one another.

O-line has played okay but CMC has been chipping pretty well and PJ is getting the ball out quick. Really shows how broken Darnold was the last few games.

And our receivers are catching the ball which is a nice change.

Continuing to blame Darnold for Robby dropping all those passes is hilarious though.

All the drops weren’t on Darnold; Robby was struggling a bit. Robby could never get into his rhythm with Darnold not putting him in the right positions with throws. Both are to blame.

I’m not disagreeing. All I want him to fix to stay here as a backup is don’t turn the ball over in bunches.

For them and our defense.  It has nothing to do with our offense.

And what I have specifically said about PJ is he has had the strongest arm on our roster for the last 20 months until Cam came back (and he still might in regards to ability to throw farther), and that he has been the best available playmaker at the QB position with his legs, and yet, he was sitting behind Teddy and Sam.  And I said his one big flaw was his decision making occasionally.

Yeah, he threw a pick, but it was still a better misplaced throw than Sam threw all year, if there is such a thing....  it was close.  And I'm not gonna knock him for attempting to make a play and being relatively close in a 20-0 game with how our defense is playing.  Regardless, are you going to pretend he wasn't throwing at almost a 70% clip and his ball placement has been A-1 outside of that pick?  He is making throws that Sam can't make in a wet dream and the offense is moving.  These throws to CMC and the timing throws on slants and such are incredible.

Honestly I don't know what you've said about Pj. I assumed if you were thumping your chest with a told you so you'd been clamoring for more other than hes got an absolute cannon attached at his shoulder - because he does, no arguments here.

I think you may be a bit caught in the moment being perfectly honest. His placement has been good, but inconsistent. CMC has had to go to his knees 3 times already to catch his passes. He was behind Moore on one catch. His biggest problem is just like Darnold, his progressions on 3rd down if the primary read isn't there have been late. His pick he was late and overthrew, he was late over the middle on his pass that was a dropped pick by Hicks.

He is a couple fortuitous bounces away from 3 turnovers in the first half.

Those same throws to CMC you praised are literally the exact same routes and throws Darnold was making the first 2 weeks of the season before his injury. I encourage you to rewatch those first 3 games. There are just as many top notch throws, throws under pressure, and throws with great placement as we've seen this game.

Suggesting that isn't true Id imagine is simply a matter of recency bias because of how ass he was the last month.
