Matt Rhule's contract won't save him

Well I for sure was one that was hoping. Bummer that he wasnt, because that would have been quite the chess move. However, it appears its not going to work out that way. Not all risks pay off.

Some risks, you know better than to take if you are the HC of a billion dollar sports franchise

Darnold’s history was there for all to see  it wasn’t a mystery

The Jets fleeced the Panthers, simple and plain, and the same brain trust added to it with a 5th year option

I’m amazed that anyone signed off on it.

One more year. I believe if you go college for HC, the guy typically gets 3 drafts and 3 years to produce a winning season just like Chip Kelley and Jim Harbaugh. Even though they produced winning seasons within that time.

Next year is make or break for Rhule, at most.

Tepper hasn't had a winning season in now 4yrs of ownership.

He hasn't gained patience since being here and wasn't patient to begin with.

When Zod said he's heard whispering of fury building up, I believe it.

Not for long.

Am I missing something?

Aren't the Panthers in a rebuild currently?  Like the second year of one.  We're we as fans expecting a rebuild in name only?  What about Panther Management/Tepper?  I'd hope some patience would be exercised in a rebuild.

Year 1 many defensive issues were addressed.  Year 2, the staff has a mixed view on continuous improvement on Defense while adding to the Offense.  I'm not sure what else could be done.  Currently.

I believe if calm heads prevail this off season could help round out the team further.

Yes, Zod said the man is pissed, and so is most of the fanbase.

Not looking good for inept Rhule. There is nothing he can do between now and next season to overcome the blunders.

He can't control veterans unless they played for him in college and he can't control or improve his OC.

You have to be able to lead grown men. You either can or can't. He hasn't shown that ability. He runs from it.

of qualifying HCs that went from college to pros since 2000....majority were gone after 2 seasons.

Chip Kelly and Harbaugh went to the playoffs in year 1.

It’s hard to rebuild without a serviceable QB and OL and Rhule has missed on both really badly. If it is true he convinced Tepper not to go for Fields then he has another year at most….

I don't understand this rebuild excuse. The problem was never the fact that we are in a rebuild. It's fine that we are rebuilding.

The problem is that the staff looks more and more incompetent throughout each week. We've scored 1 TD in 3 weeks. Rhule is visibly confused on the sidelines each week. They don't know how to game plan. They've made very questionable personnel decisions. They traded a 2nd round pick and more for Darnold and immediately picked up his 5th year option despite never seeing him play a down.

The staff looks totally inept. You say rebuild, I see incompetence. Rhule has been out-coached week in and week out. That's the problem. And we can't trust a word he says.

It may end up be more expensive to keep Rhule than to fire him.

A one time payoff vs a long slow bleed in revenue due to losing and lack of excitement.

Tepper the hedge fund manager surely sees this very plainly.

Agree, but I think he'll get one more year.

Finding and hiring a football coach is an imperfect science. Building the perfect NFL coach isn’t any easier. All you have to do is look at the hiring and firing numbers in the NFL over the last five years to realize that.

Since the end of the 2016 season, the league’s 32 teams have hired 33 head coaches. Nine teams are on their second swing at the coaching piñata during that period.

Every owner and general manager has an idea of what they want in a head coach and how to find the best man for the job. They spend weeks researching and interviewing prospective candidates. They talk to dozens of people who have employed them, worked with them, coached against them.

And yet, 33 coaching hires in five years.
