Scott Fiterer - mid season grade

Personally I think that the problem is that Rhule is a 'team builder' meaning he runs things like a CEO. Trust your staff and support their decisions without being personally involved.

Its complete speculation but I think he allowed Brady to make the call on Teddy, Darnold and Erving and Elfline. Brady said he wanted them, that they fit the scheme and Rhule told Fit to make it happen and he did.

Bringing it to 'my level' Rhule looks like he acts like a Project Manager. You delegate out work and trust that they will get it done. When it works you look good but when things fall apart and you are asked specific questions you dont know the answers cause you became too detached. This would make sense why he doesn't like to fire this staff.

I think he over delegated to Brady and that entire side of the ball is falling apart and has now crippled the defense.

Just cause you made a list doesnt mean the list its fact.

1. I dont think we were the only team interested in Darnold. And the price for a former 1st round QB is always high.

2. Extending Darnold is logical IF you think he is the guy. The more its self is not bad, the evaluation / handling of him in season has been bad.

3. Anderson has played poorly this year but his previous seasons justified that signing. Plus its a short extension, which is actually smart.

4. Being cute in the draft.. now sure what that means. The draft grades on the 2 oline guys we drafted were pretty good. FA set us up to draft BPA - which is what we did.

5. Signing Erving and Elfline. I mean I dont disagree that they have not played well but they did address this position in the offseason.

6. Trading the MLB. Well he didnt want to be here anyway..

7. Trading for Henderson. I still like the trade. Tremble is not as good as Arnold but he is not the problem. Sam wouldn't be better with him here.

1.  Lot of former first round QBs (Trubisky, Haskins, etc ) were dumped this offseason....and signed for peanuts.  And teams weren't fighting over them.  Some who were better than Sam.  Because bad QBs don't actually have a lot of value.   And young QBs who played better than Darnold were able to be picked up for a single 6th round pick (Menshew).   We got fleeced.  Because this FO went into panic mode when they failed to get Stafford and weren't guranteed a QB in the draft.

3.  Robby Anderson had 1 good season in his entire career.   One season doesn't justify that deal.  And we locked in the deal AFTER we drafted two WRs.  The smart play was to see if it was a one hit wonder season and to get a look at Marshall.  And it sure looks like Marshall deserves a lot of Robby's reps at this point.    And Robby's money/cap could of gone toward OL next year.

We know from the articles written after the trade that Phil Snow went to Rhule to suggest bringing in Darnold, not Joe Brady.

I think letting your DC essetnially pick your QB.....is a bad management approach then.   If Joe picked Teddy?  Well, Joe at least got more out of Teddy than anyone else to date.   Why in the world would you let the DC dictate your QB decision.

1. How about this, we were the only team that made an offer for sam.  That is bidding against yourself

2. There was absolutely no reason to pick up the 5th year option.  No reason whatsoever.  What is the absolute worst case scenario?  Sam balls out and we have to franchise tag him?

3. Anderson was under contract for this season.  We literally just drafted his replacement.  His extension was not needed.

4.  We waited until the 3rd to draft a guy that was in free fall and even then we didnt view him as a tackle.  There is a reason Brown fell to the 6th.

5. The signed them hour 1 day 1 of free agency.  Why the rush?  They both have sucked their entire careers.

6.  He didnt want to be here anyway?  Wth are you talking about ?  He signed was us as a free agent

7.   The henderson trade is looking worse and worse with each passing week.  Plus given the rumors about his attitude and dedication then it may be a extremely high risk mediocre reward.

I honestly can not give a grade. First and most important, I have rule about rookie- no judgement til 2nd full off-season is had. I really liked the draft, the too early returns are all over the map. Forced for the thread

Horn was playing elite got a bad foot injury

TMJ got a concussion, but was not having a impact(good or bad)

Christ has not given the coaches enough to start over the awful OL play on gameday

Tremble had a decent impact and allow panthers to trade Dan Arnold

Hubbard worked his way back form an injury and carried the load

Taylor replaced Horn in looking like a 1st, still gets playing time among the 23 other CBs

Nixon was getting close to 15 snap per game and played with high effort while causing havoc (on IR)

Smith only got a gameday jersey 3 times out of 8. injury some and in a numbers deal

Brown read christ and coaches believe hes too fat, whatever

Long safety on IR before season to save an awful pick

Hoskins like smith in a numbers deal and never gotten an active gameday jersey.

Free agents have been close to disaster and more like Herniay normal hauls. Wasted millions and cap space on David Moore, Perryman(I think leads NFL in tacks), and Dan Arnold. If not for Reddick playing like beast-mode, this class would be homeless bath water tier. Fox and Jones have had positive impacts. OL pickups are who we thought they are.

Trades. Sam Im at 40% believe level..... looking awful at the draft picks for his play current. Gilmore call the police for theft. CJ henderson you still do that trade.....but he needs more time it seems. Gave away Perryman cause coaches could not figure out how to use him, plus made up some BS about Carter beating him out(LOLOLOLOLOL). All he does is lead the D and make around 15 tackles per game now. Brilliant shitheads!

Still time for things to get better and get worse......

To be fair, all the WRs deserve reps with another QB. Just weird how Anderson had a good year when not paired with with his former QB. No idea how it falls but I would love to see what thay group could do with anyone else at this point.

I said the other day his grade should be a solid C, but after sleeping on it this dude has failed in just about every aspect of his job..

Cons:

Bid against ourselves and paid a kings ransom for Sam Darnold

Pick up his 5th year option unnecessarily therefor tying us with him for 2 years

Extending Robbie Anderson.  I mean wtf was that?

Being cute in the draft and not addressing our main needs (QB, line) and letting talent slip by for a wr that we didnt need

Signing Erving and Elflein on day 1 hour 1 of free agency

Trading Perriman

Giving up more draft capital for a corner that is rumored to hate football and has played limited snaps and trading Darnolds safety valve in the process

Pros:

Gilmore for a 6th is great but then again we have to sign him and I imagine its going to be an expensive 3 year deal

Signing Reddick albeit to a one year prove it deal

Signed Daquan Jones

I am probably missing some stuff on both sides but damn the bloom is most certainly off this rose.  People on here were kissing his ass after the draft and I told people patience.  Sure he is better then hurney but the darnold albatross is going to pull this franchise down for 2 solid years

You listed all this and only gave a C? Its an F, D- at best

There's no way to honestly defend that decision. Fitterer and Rhule are incompetent. We have major roster needs heading into the draft (OL... hello?!?!) and we go DB and WR the first two rounds. Follow that up with some TE, RB, WR, and red shirt long snapper. What's the next step? Extend Robby.

Just terrible.
