MNF - Fields

Lol what is this thread? On the season:

4 Passing TDs 8 INTs

2 Rushing TDs 8 Fumbles

Jesus I want to win too and Sam ain't it but quit with the nonsense. The same ones in here fawning over a career night for Fields consisting of  a 58% completion 291 yards 1 TD and 1 INT are the exact same crowd that would nitpick Darnolds games against the Jets, Saints, Texans, Cowboys.

Fields has been dog poo this year and to say differently is just flat out wrong. Not one of you would have given him a chance past his TB game 2 weeks ago when he threw 3 picks and had 3 fumbles. You would have screamed for heads to roll, thumped your chest about how you called him being a bust during draft night and how picking him set this Franchise back 4 years while repeating yourselves in 27 reactionary new threads after the game.

Good Lord losing really brings out the crazy in some of you.

Fields should have always been the goal.

Keep Teddy and draft Fields.

If Fields doesn't fall then you trade for Sam and then trade Teddy.

even with the idiotic trade for Sam YOU STILL DRAFT FIELDS. Who cares if you have two QBs, best case scenario you have two franchise guys and sell one for a mass of picks.

Worst case is that likely one is decent.

Most likely case is one pans out.

We picked the wrong one and it isn't a hindsight decision, so many of us saw this coming.

Fields is a rookie taking his rookie lumps behind a bad o line and with bad coaching. He's still better than Darnold and won't cost 18.8 million next year. Missed opportunity with regards to the QB position for this team, absolutely. At least Fields shows you flashes and you can be optimistic about him going forward. This is year 4 of Sam making the same mistakes, if you don't count USC where he turned the ball over a ton.

Again, I'm not mad about drafting Jaycee Horn bc he looks like a future great player at a valuable position. But the decision making process involving the QB position, (thinking you had a guy you could make look good so you can pass on the options in the draft) was a terrible mistake.

Watching Fields tonight just really pours salt into the open wounds. The logical choice in last years draft. There for the taking, and we take a luxury CB. This is a total and complete disaster, and the real rebuild hasn’t even started yet. We take fields and even if we’re sitting at 1-7, if he looked like he did tonight, we’re all feeling ok with it. Go heavy in the draft on OL and man, we are all set for the next 5 years. Instead, we are as directionless as a rudderless boat with Sam Darnold as our QB. Sickening.

I've stopped commenting as much here because it's just become a toxic place to browse. The idea that spending a 2nd round pick on Darnold was 'mortgaging our future' and 'a complete disaster' is absurd.

CB wasn't a luxury - it's disingenuous to call it that after the fact to fit a narrative you're trying to build. We couldn't get off the field on third downs last year - now we can.

As for the rebuild - at the moment we're stacking the roster with good players. They've fuged up at OC and OLine, which is why we're currently 4-5. That can be fixed in the offseason.

Some of you really don't understand what an absolute mess Hurney (and Gettleman) and Rivera left this roster in - you look around the league and see quick turnarounds and try to apply that logic here. Rivera was here for a decade and Hurney / Gettleman missed on WAY too many Draft picks for this to be anything but a complete roster overhaul.

LOL. Don't worry, we got a DB instead in a DB deep draft. Shades of young Cam with Fields. poo like this is why we will be losers.

Young Cam? Cam was immediately better than Fields. I understand the comparison but Cam was much better early in his career than Fields has been.

Did Fields start the season off terrible? Yes. He is a rookie and that’s expected, but he is progressing and getting better. That Steeler defense is no joke. Fields also has bad coaching (Nagy), a bad line, and not that many weapons yet he is still getting better each week. Much better place to be than a 4 year starter who is getting worse, ranks among the bottom of the league, and is owed north of $18 million next year.

To the people saying drafting Horn has helped us get off the field on 3rd down. In theory this is true, but Horn has only played like 2 games and we are still able to do this. DJax, Bouye, Taylor, Melvin and crew with the addition of Gilmore and Henderson would have been capable. Plus we would have our picks and a QB on the rookie salary. It’s a much better place to be. We would be looking at OL with our first 2 round picks to protect Fields, plus have an extra $18 million next year.

I know it’s easy to play the hindsight game, but a huge portion of this board was wanting this even after we signed Darnold.

I was interested in Fields and didn't understand the negative angle on him pre draft.

That said he's yet to show anything at this point to get upset over not selecting him.

He definitely has shown the flashes of what he can become. I think some people in this thread were spoiled by cam coming out first two games throwing 800 yards and a bunch of tds. Fields is progressing nicely. Exactly like you’d want to see from a rookie who is in a bad situation on top of that. Big time throws, mobile.

im really afraid looking back we’re going to massively regret not taking him a couple of years from now unless we got a good one here over that time period.

the decision to send a second and two other picks and pick up darnolds 18 mill 5th year option just compounds the frustration.

I guarantee you the ones who wanted fields would not have been doing that. I’d even wager the ones who wanted fields are the least reactionary of this fanbase. Not all but most.

    • I have been on the Bech bandwagon since well before the SR Bowl.  Hoping that he would stay a hidden gem and we'd be smart enough to grab him late.  I just don't think Morgan cares as much about WR as we do
    • No one had posted in a month.  I don't think any of us were watching
    • Here is how this draft could get mind-blowingly complicated--Interesting comment about Jags floating the Jeanty idea to lure Chicago into a trade.  I have to think Ben Johnson is going to duplicate in many ways the success he had in Detroit, and I have to think their free agency was following the blueprint Carolina designed last year (one that the Saints designed before them with Brees) and they upgraded all of their interior linemen.  RT in Chicago is set; Johnson loves RT Darnell Wright.  However, at LT, Braxton Jones is coming off a December injury and is considered to be in a competition for the position this year by at least a few fans on the Bears Wire.  His PFF score, however, was solid, posting an 80+ score in pass protection and 70+ score in run blocking.  He is in his prime.  However, in some of their fan mocks, the Bears are taking a LT.  I thought they needed an Edge to play 4-3 strong side across from Sweat, but they signed Odeyingbo to a pretty big contract in March. For the Bears, in my view, it comes down to TE or Running Back. Kmet is their #1 TE and he had 474 yards in that role, which was 25th in the NFL last season for TEs.  Adding Warren would help upgrade the TE spot and give them the ability to add around an estimated 80 yards of production per game.  The Bears have D'Andre Swift at RB, but could use a RB to pair with him for a desired 2 RB attack.  So if I am Da Bears, I stay at 10 and take Warren.  If the Jags want to move on from Etienne, then they will take Jeanty. I think, if I were the Jags (with 10 picks this year) I would take Mason Graham and not try to get an 11th pick.  It is a need position, and it seems to me the only reason they are toying with the idea of moving on from Etienne is because Jeanty is on the board.  That, to me, would be a luxury pick. New GM, I think he does not get cute--they take Graham if they stay at 5.  I might say the Jags' biggest need is Corner.  #5 is too rich for Will Johnson, but remember, they have 10 picks.  could they move up with Cleveland and take Hunter, giving them a CB and WR threat?  To me, with the draft capital they have, that is the move they should make.  Cleveland then could move back to #5.  Remember, Nick Chubb is an aging (29) free agent coming off an injury--so he is gone.  With an additional second rounder, the Browns move back and take Jeanty to give Flacco a running game. The Jags pick is very interesting, but I would not be surprised to see them move up.
