He's not really a conundrum, he has played 2 games where he looked like he could be a NFL starting QB, then he has 22 games of looking like a backup or that he doesn't even belong in the league. Some of those games feature some of the worst QB play you will ever see. We have to bring in someone to compete for the spot next season, either a rookie or FA. -
Howell is a good example of what I would describe as comparitive inconsistency in the way he is regarded. He had one season to show what he could do and was sacked as much as Bryce was and while he had dicey decision making at times with risky throws he was undoubtedly moving the ball as he was 12th in yards and yards per game for the season while completing 63.4% of his passes. I don't think it's fair for anyone to say he is a bust and should never get another shot while turning around and affording Bryce Young chance after chance. Just keeping it real.
