Will Charlotte ever have a parade?

I think it's waaaaay premature to count the Panthers out for the foreseeable future. The NFL and the NBA are very different, but I like that both of our local franchises are focusing on youth, speed and building from within. The theme of 'playing for each other' seems to have really set in with both teams.

I think everyone who has bashed Rhule and Co. for not building an offensive line are ignoring the fact that our defense has become dominant in two seasons. That has come from an outsized focus on the defensive side of the ball, and at the expense of the offensive side. I believe that Fitterer and Rhule are going to start closing that gap this offseason, and I foresee a similar result to what they've done on defense. We will get there, sooner than later, but definitely not soon enough for some of the impatient, unrealistic fans on this board.

So yeah, SDM, I think you'll get your parade, and it'll go right by your bar.

Also, I think if Tepper is able to pull off a new soccer team and building a new football stadium downtown, he'll pivot to getting an MLB team here next. Would be interesting to see if Tampa Bay is still in play when that happens.

Back to the OP, been watching the Braves parade festivities all day.

Remember how during the 80's, the Braves were a perennial laughing stock of the league. Nobody showing up at the stadium, etc.

Let's look at when they won their pennants:

  • World Series: 1914, 1957, 1995, 2021
Those are three pretty gaps between those wins.
  • 1958, 1969, 1982..... then 1991, 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005..... then 2013, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021...

They went from absolute last place in the league to appearing in the Series the next year (1991 season).

Nobody wanted to play in Atlanta.

But something clicked. And they started winning. And winning A LOT.

The Braves of the 90's were a dominating force into the playoffs. And the team from the last few years has been pretty good too.

The Panthers could be like the 90's Braves -- just a few small tweaks away from being a Dominant Force in the league.
