You can trade into the top 10-15 you are aware, right? Did the 49ers and Pats not do that this past draft to get "their guy?" Did the Chiefs not do that to get Mahomes?

What you are talking about is precisely what the cellar dwellers of the NFL have done for years. Being bad and overdrafting prospects that were reaches. That's what awful teams do. That's Panic Drafting 101.

what you are doing is what teams who spend their whole history going 8-8 do.  Also the type of prospect you are waiting for in the draft doesn't go 10-15, they go top 10.

Would we have been better off rolling with Grier 2 years ago and not going down the Teddy and Sam path?

Yes.  We probably would have picked 3rd this past draft and we would have took a QB and we would have been trying to develop him.  I'm not saying he would have been a sure thing but we would have our plan at this point.

Whether we draft a QB this year or next, an extra 2-3 wins this upcoming season is pointless that you might get from some temporary QB.  Take your lumps, find your guy and use your resources wisely.

Agree to disagree based on recent NFL history.

The path of an NFL dumpster fire isn't one that ends in success very often, it mostly just ends in ashes.

If you spend 4m on some washed up vet is the fire really that much different?

In reality both of us saw this coming, and I think we are both agree that the best of course of action is to draft a guy at some point.

You would prefer a couple of more wins in the meantime, I would prefer more cap to use in the future.

We fundamentally disagree on the way to get there but we want to be in the same spot.

Not that it matters, we are gonna sign Josh Rosen or Dwayne Haskins to a 4 year, $65 mil contract given the way we evaluate QB's.

the most likely answer, is a NFL LB just called it like he saw it though.

and I don't know if it is overblown or not.  That's not one of my primary Sam issues.  I know Sam has lots of issues with his game....and when you add them all up togther, the collective sum is clearly problematic and has been.

I just think more often than not it's the two things being true aspect applying.  Sam Darnold simply can't see the field.  Collectively, the NFL world has made this point loud and clear.  I assume his present teammates know this problem.  I assume his coaches do.   It causes him to do really stupid things with the ball and he often will put people in bad spots because of that.  Does that impact his WRs? If they are human? I assume it would to some degree.  How much?  Who knows.  Most NFL players at some point are going to have to deal with that.

All of that can be true.

and at the same time, Robby can be playing like trash this season....and DJ Moore has never had Nuk Hopkins like dependable hands.

and the OL can be weak and cause a host of problem for others.  From QB to playcaller.

and Sam can still make horrible decisions and not be a good QB right now...that are not be caused by the OL or Brady.

Joe Brady can be young and lacking.

Joe Brady can also be screwed from actully have the basic resources a young and inexperiecned OC probably needs.  He probably at least needs vet QB, or a good QB, or at least a decent OL.  Something.

Lot of things can be true.

Everything you just said is exactly what we are witnessing.  One would have to be blind not to see it.

it's not one comment though.  89 wasn't the commentator the other week when it was pointed out Sam opened up a game throwing a hosptial ball to DJ.   He just didn't use the phrase hosptial ball.

Think it was Vilma that time.

Pardon me.  You're correct.
It was Vilma.

My point still stands :

Shut the fk up about Hospital Balls.

You're a WR...GO CATCH THE FK'N BALL.   That's it.

😨🤢🤮

I was thinking Daniel Jones, but he isn't at the bottom of the dumpster so I suppose those two make sense

I agree completely... The offense is just playing poorly... and tbh, some of these problems predate our losing streak... Its as if the people blaming "hospital balls" for the WR play just ignored everything being said about our WR group's hands in preseason.  this has been a persistent problem, and I think it points at something far outside whether the WRs like Darnold or not.  nor is this excusing Darnold being bad, lol, but we can also acknowledge that a group that was supposed to be one of our strengths is not turning out that way.

last year DJ had the same number of drops he'd had in his first two years combined. there's something off with coaching / preparation imo (this is not me blaming Brady, as I have no clue what is going on there).

It's almost like they want to give lame excuses for the WR struggles and push ALL the blame onto Sam.

They may deny they're doing it but they actually ARE doing it by running with this Hospital-Ball narrative.

And that just smacks of Piling-on which is stupid and petty.

Sam is not a good NFL QB but he can't catch the thrown balls for the WR's.

Just like there needs to be accountability for the QB, there also needs to be accountability for the Wide Receiver Corp.

I mean, that’s just not happening though.  I have yet to hear a single poster claim Sam Darnold is the only problem.

Sam is the biggest singular individual problem.    And he overall gets treated as such.  Which is pretty normal.  Collectively the OL could be considered an equal problem.  But that is a collective problem.  With no singular solution.
