So this was or wasn’t a hospital ball by Darnold?

Just because a receiver is defenseless doesn't make it a hospital ball.  It's football.... receivers will be defenseless sometimes.

Anderson didn't have to reach up for the ball.  Threw it right to Anderson's chest.  Maybeee you argue he could have thrown it slightly sooner but honestly that was just an amazing reaction and legal hit by Erik Harris.

It was a late throw and a good play by the defender. The announcers noted that DJ didn’t run his route full speed tipping off the defender it was a clear out route so he broke off and slammed Robbie

That's just how DJ looks when he runs.  Visually, he a never looks like he is going all out.   DJ did his job.

Ball needed to be out quicker.  Was thrown late and hung up in the air...which allowed the defender ample time read the play....and come down and blow Anderson up.

Sam could of made a better throw and got it out earlier.  That would have kept the DJ's defender from breaking off his coverage assignment in the manner he did.

Overall, most credit IMO has to go to the defender.  It was a great play by him.  And that happens sometimes.

bro dj slowed to a jog allowing the safety to make a move on the pass to robbie.

People are looking for who to blame in this instance when they should be focused on the why. The Falcons made it a point to dole out some punishment. They watch film and our upcoming opponents will be seeing the same things. Regardless of how you feel about these so called hospital balls if we continue to make throws like this there will be defenders who have seen these plays on film lurking. Coincidentally the Cons did the same thing to Sam in the run game. Remember that Sam Newton thread? Well Atlanta sure did. All of this stuff is on game tape. You can be sure our next opponent the Patriots will be very much aware of this stuff.

well, post DJ jogging before the defender was breaking on Sam's pass to Robbie.

I think this is a textbook example of letting an announcer reshape what actually happened.  Ball was late, which allowed the defender the opportunity to break on the pass to Robby.    Sam needed to put some real mustard on that one since it was late.

What is more common the year? Sam making a textbook late throw or DJ loafing it?

Which is more likely. Two 1k yard receivers from last season suddenly forgot how to football or the bust qb who has struggled throughout his nfl career is still struggling and in turn hindering the passing offense? 47 rushing attempts including 8 from the qb tells you what you need to know.

I agree ball was late. Tendency with Darnold is he holds onto the ball too long and is slow with his progressions.

On a side note I do understand the gripe of our no.1 and no.2 receivers not making plays unless the ball is thrown between the numbers with no defender in sight.

    • Easily. To be able to plug in a backup LT without much drop off from your starter? That could mean the difference between playoffs or sitting at home in January. Good/serviceable smart young and healthy LTs that won’t lose you a ball game at reasonable $$ don’t just come along every day. Picture next year… the team is scrappy and competitive, 4 and 3 record, second place in the South. Morale is good. devastating run game that Let’s our marginal defense get plenty of rest. We play the Bucs and win, going to 5 and 3, but we lose Ickey to a high ankle sprain. Atl loses that week and are now at 5 and 3 as well. There is no Ickey and no BC because we let him go… and we go in to Atl the next week for a battle of first in the south. Week after that is the Jets…. Now they lose both by 10 and 3, respectively, and fall to 5 and 5 going in to their bye week. Atl is at 7 and 3. Out of typical Panthers desperation, they try to rush Ickey back in to the lineup with a saints game coming up…  Back to good old Panthers football, always playing catchup. Another season at .500 and the fans sadly rejoice in mediocrity, when playoffs were in reach. This team always overestimates its ability to pick up quality o line depth in the draft or FA and it always blows up in their faces. Like Chuba, I see him as being part of the core that Dan is trying to build. Work on his contract now and see if we can come out with something mutually beneficial. I’d consider 3 yrs at $25m to be very fair.
    • it would be great to have "double trouble" again, I even had a T- shirt for Williams and Stewart and the double trouble logo, was a great time to be Panthers fan. We shall see...
    • Sounds like a plan. Those are the teams we should be mimicking! lol
