What a waste of a season, what a waste of a roster

Jake also had D.Will wide open in the flat when he threw that pick down the middle in the red zone. I couldnt believe how open Williams was. Jake never looked at him or anywhere else. He just dropped back and threw that pick. I actually think the guy who picked it was probably the one that supposed to cover Williams out of the backfield. If Jake just threw it out to the flat to Williams it would have definately been a first down + more, he might have even taken it in for the TD.

Yeah there were only a few times when I actually saw Jake check down. His awareness is non-existent and his accuracy is too. Stick a fork in the guy because he's done.

Why in the hell would you ask Jake to throw it almost 40 fuggin times....that is beyond me. We have the best RB tandem in the NFL and we throw the ball. Can't blame Jake or the players for this loss...clearly coaching is the problem and it is more and more obvious!

I wish Fox & Davidson stop ignoring this. I thought they learn their lesson from our Playoffs loss to Arizona along with few games so far this season to show that our RB should run the ball much as Jake throwing it. Throwing more & somewhat abandon the run never help us so far.

Jake refuses to checkdown.

THAT 3RD AND 1 where they went deep to smitty instead of running it to sustain the drive pisses me off still!

I still think it was a good play call. Just think about it. It's 3rd and 1 and it's the Panthers. If I were a betting man, I would say the odds of the Panthers running it in that situation is about 99%. Delhomme had Smitty one on one, Smitty had his man beat by 2-3 steps, and Delhomme simply over threw him (doesn't that sound familiar). Point is, Delhomme is a joke of a QB and he proved it again today that he is inept and is not worthy to start in the NFL.

Why again did we bring in an OC from the Browns and a DC from the Colts?

Let's make sure we go get an OC from the worst offense on the NFL and a DC from the worst defense in the NFL... I suspect we hired these guys because we knew they would bend over and take it from Fox. We had a bunch of guys on staff last year that finally got tired of being held back. Henning was a scapegoat for Fox, the man has a playbook the size of the yellow pages and we only were interested in about 10% of it.

Done with Fox and done with his cronies.

That was the first indication of how things were going to progess thru the game. That didnt piss me off half as much as the idiot that told Fox to throw the challange flag. Not that it hurt us but who on the staff is that inept to come to the conclusion to challenge that play? This is just one item amoung many rediculous decisions that go on all the time tht keep this team down...

We are a mediocre team that just had two major injuries to key players.

I'm sorry that's hard to understand.

I don't know that I'd say mediocre. The defense was playing outstanding, as of late, and the running game was really going very well.

In fact, the only weak point of our team that I saw was at QB. And, with good defense, the good ground attack, Jake did a good job vs. Atlanta of making plays when he needed to.

How is that a mediocre team? How is that any different than how we won the division last season?

Sure, we had two very key injuries. We lost possibly our best defensive player, and our most important offensive lineman. But, there's a little more to it than what you're suggesting.

You forgot special teams.

Our lack of a deep threat (because of QB and receiver issues), our lack of a competent and comfortable QB, and our lack of reasonably effective special teams play (primarily kick coverage) has killed this season. Oh and our coaches (Fox especially and probably Davidson also) have given a great example of how not to do your job.

One more thing: Delhomme cannot hit anyone in stride. They always have to adjust to make the catch due to inaccuracy. There was at least one catch Smitty had that should have been him running and dodging a defender for six. But he didn't get the chance because he had to adjust and fall as he caught the ball.

Well, I just meant that talent wise, to call us mediocre isn't exactly accurate.

As a blanket statement for the entire team's performance as a whole (4-6 record), obviously. But, it's being overly simplistic.

This team has more potential than most other teams with similar records. Just bad coaching, mistakes, etc... bring us down to mediocre.

To clarify, I feel like special teams performance is 99% coaching.

    • If we are going to spend the money anyway, maybe the signing is not as bad as it seems.  Mays outperformed Corbett (before his injury and if you go back to last year, Corbett has been below average) and then Christensen took the job and Mays quickly took it from him and never looked back.  He could use improvement reaching to the next level (LBs) but picking up stunts and blitzes---he was surprisingly good.  Run blocking needs some work, but he is 25.  Corbett, in my view, should be G/C depth and if Mays steps back, he is there.  Mays should start because this team is building for the future and 30 year old players are not building blocks.  We shall see.  That is how I think about it, but there are many factors we do not know. Having said that, I like what Zavala is doing, and I do not want to bring in someone who would take opportunities away from him.  Zavala was really good at RG down the stretch, and in limited duty, was awesome. In fact, we have a guard from the PS who played briefly and did well, but he only played a few plays.  He is 25 and I recall that fans of his former team were upset when we signed him.   Maybe as the backup center only (Corbett).  You need 2 centers to run practices efficiently.  I cannot say enough about the OL coaches on this staff.  What they have done is overshadowed by the Lewis / Hunt signing.  Mays, Ekwonu, Zavala--impressive growth.
