I didn’t really pay attention to the Rhules contract details after he was hired, but now I am curious about how much of Rhules contract is guaranteed so I looked it up.
Wow, the entire 60 million, up to 70 million, is guaranteed.
How stupid can you be to give a college coach so much guaranteed money?
So unless Tepper buys out his contract or, I guess, Rhule leaves on his own. We are stuck with him no matter what happens. SMH. Hope the guy improves then.

NFL coaching contracts are fully guaranteed.

It’s a SEVEN year deal. Thinking that Tepper expected playoffs in year 2 is naive.

Also…if you think a guy who’s worried about getting fired after year two is going to hitch his future to a previously failed #3 overall draft pick and Bridgewater you’re crazy.

The last two years were Rhule basically trying to build elements of this team (mainly defense) and develop a culture. He wasn’t going to compromise the overall way he thinks you win in order to reach for a guy like Fields. So….we got Darnold. We will see what happens in year 3 but he ain’t going anywhere unless he wants to

Were you a man with $1,000,000 of cash in hand...

...on an equivalent basis it would be as if you contracted with a yard man for 6-years for a total of $4,285.75...

...Tepper doesn't GAF about this contract -- he'll buy it out in a NY minute if necessary.

I'm not a fan of the college route, but I would have more faith rolling the dice on a Dabo type.  And by that, it's just about looking at how he has seen his success.  Dabo at least understands one thing, his success has always been tied to and has been QB centric.  QB play is the puzzle solver for problems.  A lot of college football, especially lower conference play...isn't about that.

Rhule might can build an overall decent football team.  But he never put the type team together in college that is almost required to win in the pros.

Dabo? Dabo is an idiot who is a snake oil salesman elite recruiter. He would be an abject failure in the NFL where you can't just out talent your opponent and win a couple of tough games a hear. He can't coach worth a damn and would be worse than Urban.

Hurney is the gift that just keeps giving... Years after he's gone we will still be frustrated by him.

People will continue to poo on Hurney and he’s done enough damage to this franchise to deserve it, however if he had his way last year; we’d have our franchise under center in Justin Herbert.

Who cares?  His contract doesn't affect the Panthers.  I'm pretty sure Tepper would have no issue firing him if it came down to that.  Tepper doesn't strike me as someone who would hold onto a bad investment over a mere millions of dollars.

(Not that I want Rhule to get fired.  I think the hate he's getting is unnecessary.  Hard to win with a piss poor QB.  He 100% deserves blame for hedging his bets on Darnold, but he deserves another offseason to correct the issue).

If I'm a betting man I would say Tepper will cut his losses sooner rather than later. He wants to win and having a poor performing team is almost like a black eye to him. As soon as he saw Hurney as a bad investment he cut him loose and I don't think the Rhule to Penn ST is bullpoo. He might be reading the Tepper tea leaves. Either way Tepper is a man on a mission and normally he seems to get what he wants so hopefully that will come sooner than later.

You mean if Herbert hadnt been drafted before our pick? Sure.  Do we know it'd be any different with a different gm?

But Hurney has generally been money in the first.

He’s building a losing culture

Look at some of the guys still here hired by him and what they do...

That was Teppers biggest mistake, not firing Hurney with Ron and now his stink still lingers.

I doubt Hurney was in the room when Rhule was hired, he may have had discussed it with Tepper. I’m just glad Hurney didn’t  make Cam the highest paid QB in the league.

Hurney was there and a big part of hiring Rhule. That's on Yeppet not Rhule.

Thinking Tepper will take losing long enough for that 7 year contract to expire is naive.

This wasn’t part of the argument? But giving someone a 7 year deal does seem to imply that you aren’t going to fire them after the second year. Granted, Tepper could probably burn that money and not care. But considering his business background I’m going to say he has no trouble being patient and waiting for the process to play out.

If this team stays healthy it’s a borderline playoff team. That’s progress in year two. Rhule can’t control that the best player on the team is out and the two best players on defense are out. Could argue the 3 best players on the team have been out over the last 4 games and one of them is a rookie that Rhule preferred. That’s not bad team management. That’s bad luck.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
