Panthers fans have really gone insane. No one is even trying to get a franchise Qb anymore. We sucked so bad under Tepper that fans are really settling for guys like Minshew and Tyrod.

I think the draft a rookie bit was the franchise QB ideally.  Tyrod on a rental with a promising rookie sitting behind him learning sounds good to me, but the OL must be fixed too.

I rather roll with Sam Darnold again next season than journey man Tyrod who consistently get replaced by rookie QBs every year and a mediocre Minshew. Minshew Ryan Fitzmagic 2.0. Take a chance of Spencer Rattler.

For me, it depends on the price. This isn't about long term solution, but best environment for a rookie to become the guy we need... Tyrod is unquestionably an upgrade over Darnold. Barring some major improvement, Darnold shouldn't see the field next year.  Tyrod gives us a mentor for a young rookie we think will be the franchise one day. 

As to Minshew, he would be a potentially very cheap backup option, and as we've seen there is a lot of value in that.  I don't see him as some future franchise qb though.

Yeah that’s the theory. You have a solid vet (who was playing well before he got hurt) to help the rookie learn the game until his is ready. It also gives the fans something to watch because Sam was unwatchable last game… FA targets should be OL and picks outside of our QB (which isn’t many right now).

Thanks to the rookie pay scale, the league has moved on from the "draft a rookie to sit behind a vet" phase. For the most part, if a drafted rookie has to sit behind a vet now for more than a couple games, they have little chance of being "the guy" in the future--see the questions on Tua and Hurts.

Herbert ended up playing early, Lance has already played early and would be now if not for injury, Fields is playing, and Jones is playing. Wilson would be playing if not for injury. Lawrence beat out Minshew. Kyler Murray played early. So did Burrow and Mayfield. 

Don't draft a QB if you're not ready to roll with him on Day 1, especially if he's drafted early. And don't sign a vet with the intent of allowing your 3rd rounder to "learn". It's a risk not worth taking (see Taylor, Tyrod and Mills, Davis).

Tyrod behind a decent line could push the team into playoff contention.
