Are we a more attractive destination for Russell Wilson?

The Seahawks are sinking, with a 2-5 record only one year after going 12-4. The low point could come this weekend, if Seattle loses at home to the 1-5 Jaguars. (Seattle currently is favored by only three points.)

Before the season, quarterback Russell Wilson rattled the cage about a possible trade. The effort culminated in his agent claiming in one breath that Wilson doesn’t want to be traded before saying in the next breath that Wilson would accept a trade to the Cowboys, Raiders, Bears, and Saints.

Wilson eventually opted to love the one he’s with, given the possibility that the presence of a new offensive coordinator will take the team, which hasn’t been to the NFC Championship for seven years, to the next level. That hasn’t happened, with concerns spreading this year to the defense, too.

Wilson’s absence due to a finger injury has made things worse. Given, however, that the absence of Wilson apparently has made coach Pete Carroll appreciate his quarterback even more, the team likely becomes even less inclined to move him.

Whether they will or won’t is a different question from whether he’ll try. Wilson is keenly aware of his legacy. He wants to win Super Bowls. The Seahawks seem to be a long way from contending for another one. If he’s going to make another play to get out after what quickly is becoming a lost season, why not make the play now?

Think of what he’d do with a team like the Saints, one of the four teams his agent mentioned in the offseason. Or how about the Browns, whose biggest question mark could be at the most important position on the team?

We’ll likely never know if Wilson’s agent makes one last behind-the-scenes run at making a trade happen, unless it progresses to actual trade talks. Given the issues from earlier this year and the strong possibility that he will make another play for a new team after the season, there are plenty of reasons for him to consider the possibility of making the jump to a new team in time to try to get back to the Super Bowl and win it, this year.

This is such a strange take. I have actually met the dude and he is not an ego guy.

He wants to be involved in roster moves and other important decisions and wants a trade because they won't give him that level on control as a player. I would say that's ego-driven, imho.

    • He made some excellent throws but he always has made some excellent throws here and there. I don't know what to think, which is what I was apprehensive about. Is he going to have a decent downfield game? Because okay Legette dropped one, but someone was giving stats prior to the bye or during it where he had two downfield completions and one of them was the jump ball that is just launched and fingers are crossed that our guy comes down with it, and yesterday we saw that again. The Russell Wilson school of downfield passing.  I don't feel like that is sustainable, but at the same time you have to do Something to make the defense understand they have to defend that downfield throws. Like i said, confused.  I guess I'm going to review the game for myself and look closely at his mechanics and stuff because if he actually fixed that stuff it explains the better throws. And that has been my biggest objection, or what I see as the thing that makes or breaks his chances, that unorthodox dropback and tippy toe action and not having his feet set which limits velocity etc etc.
    • The negative Nancy in me (or objective?) says that they had a bye week to prepare for the Chiefs. However, it’s one thing to have a good plan and it’s another to actually execute it. For all the flack he’s received (from me as well), Bryce seemingly has put his head down and worked his tail off and his play is giving me hope. The first 18-game Bryce showed no progression whatsoever. He gets benched, comes back, and has shown steady progress every week he has started. I think I’m starting to see what the Bryce lovers and unconditional defenders were saying all along, and I hope he can show that on a regular basis for the sake of our QB1 position.
    • Yeah, we could still very well end up 4-13 with the 2nd pick.   I think LVR has the inside track for 1, with only a JAX team as a team on docket that could be beatable.
