I agree with the sentiment for the most part about Canes/Hornets vs. Panthers but you're all missing on the all important luck x-factor. 

 

Hornets got lucky that they hit the lottery. They got lucky that Minnesota and GSW both passed on Lamelo. 

Hurricanes got lucky that they won the lottery. Granted they took years and built a fantastic farm system and made some amazing trades, but landing Svech was the turning point for us becoming true contenders.

 

The Panthers were a few draft picks away from being in this exact scenario. We were one draft pick away from having both Justin Herbert and Peneii Sewell which would have been franchise altering.
