New coach, new coordinator, new players?

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

At the beginning of the season, I was done with Fox and Hurney. I was pissed at trading away next years draft pick for Brown, pissed at the way we were playing (i.e. losing), and furious that we were stuck with Jake, who was terrible.

Now I'm not so sure. I don't think I want a regime change. I've hated our yo-yo tendencies more than anyone, but will that be avoided under a new coach? People can argue whether Fox is a good coach (I think he is) but he does tons of things behind the scenes that we don't know about. His teams have never quit on him, they play hard for him, and they don't question him either. I trust that a lot.

I do, however, want a new QB. To a great extent, I think the reason we have been inconsistent is our QB play. A good QB makes a team consistently good.

I thought Davidson did a good job with the offense last year until the meltdown against the Cardinals. I haven't understood why the run was abandoned and the game was put on Jake's shoulders to win or lose. This team has looked a lot better when they mix up plays. I think we need a QB (at least in the long run), better special teams, and play calling that isn't so predictable.

I will take the same exact team with Cowers as coach, minus Jake and an additional receiver that has some speed. We are not losing b/c we don't have talent. Position by position I think we are one of the more talented teams in the NFL. You don't have to be the best at every position to win a Super Bowl.....look at the past couple Super Bowl champs.

I am more angry with Hurney than Fox, but if both have to go for Hurney to be gone, then so be it.

Hurney has put us into really bad positions as far as drafting and cap management, that it's almost impossible to get the talent that we need to compete every year for the title.

Our inability to draft and be patient with players, is crazy.

 and you dont think Fox has anything to do with us trading all our picks away. Hurney gave Fox the rope he wanted now he just may hang himself with that rope. Indeed I wish he had not but its obvious that JR signed off on it.

I would say we were very patient with the likes of Kerry Colbert and Now Jarrett. Also with Thomas Davis and Gamble.

You had to be patient with those players.

Fox has some say in drafting, but Hurney makes the final choices. Our drafting is suspect, without a doubt, but our spending on contracts is what really gets me with Hurney.

Renegotiation of contracts in particular has been horrible. Lucas, Delhomme, Peppers, Gross, etc....these and others have handcuffed us.

I think we just need to upgrade on one position and that's the qb spot. Jake's inability to read the defends and inaccuracy is killing the passing game (although he did show gleams of his old self last week). This team reminds me of the viking team of last year. Great running game, good defend but no passing game. They improve with Brett. I believe this team is a qb away from being back in the superbowl.

new offensive minded coach.

he will need to bring in a new QB and some adjustments to the WR corp. Carolian doesn't need to rebuild....they just need a slight change.

Offensive minded coach is unlikely. Jerry Richardson prefers defensive coaches. If I recall correctly, he's never even interviewed an offensive coach.

The players are good, it's not that we lack pieces to contention since we only truly lack a Playmaker at the QB position.

It's the coaching staff and GM that has got to go. I can live with Hurney *blegh* but Fox has to completely change his philosophy, or he can hit the road.

since none of the defensive coaches have gotten him a ring he might want to change his mind on that.

i nominate jim harbaugh.

ohhh...and it is going to have to be a culture thing to shake the yo-yo thing. voting new HC/GM.

that will also bring change to players and assistants/coordinators.
