Take these guys out of MVP consideration

maybe because if he is the MVP of that team and still can't pull out a winning record with all those passing yards then he isn't doing something right, plus with all those passing yards you would think he'd have the most passing TDs (the stat that matters) and he doesn't, also when there are QBs with almost as much yardage and/or more TDs on teams that will be playing in the playoffs or are atleast still alive in the playoff hunt those might be good reasons why he shouldn't be in the running

their problem is solely the defense and a good running game. no matter what he does others perhaps lose the game. take him out of NO and what is their record?

Well lets see:

Williams averages 5.4 YPC, Peterson averages 4.8

Williams has 20 touchdowns, Peterson has 9 touchdowns

Oh, and here is the good one:

Williams has 0 fumbles, (and one in his entire career) Peterson has 8 this year.

The only stat AP has over D-Will is that he gets more carries.

I don't understand why some people can be so blind as to ignore those stats. How can Peterson be FAR better than Williams with the above stats this year? AP is a solid running back, but he's been all media attention from the get go. I hate how half of the "star" players in the NFL are overrated.

I guess the main reason it matters is this. With Brees, you guys finished in last place. Without Brees, you still would have finished in last place. So for this year, how valuable is he really?

last place in a tough division with a possible winning record (if the saints win it will be the first time ever that all teams in a division post a wining record) But more to the point -- without Brees the Saints are probably a 3-4 win team -- so his presence represents a 4-5 game difference -- how many other players can say that -- without D will would the Panthers be an 8-8 team 00 I doubt it -- and he did it without Colston for most of the year -- a non healthy Deuce, Shockey out a lot -- Bush missed 4 games - so while i dont think he deserves to get it (unloess he breaks marinos record in which case i think he does) I think he at least deserves consideration for the award

Yeah he deserves consideration, but no non-playoff team has ever won the award. Take that however you wish.

Fantasy football. That's why people think like this ^^^^.

There is a hell of a lot going on, during any given play, on both sides of the ball. Stats do not tell the entire story, especially with running backs.

How good did running backs look when they were running behind people like Willie Roaf or Walter Jones, in their prime? What about backs that have nobody blocking for them, like McFadden? What kind of passing game did their team have? Did it take pressure off of the ground game? Did they have a good defense that gave them good field position and kept the ball in the offense's hands?

Peterson has enough talent to become the best back the league has seen since Sweetness. Right now, he is a good runner. But he isn't a good blocker and he doesn't catch a lot of balls. If he can improve in those areas, he will be dominant for as long as his body allows him to be. Everytime they hand him the ball, you hold your breath.

Right now, Williams is a better overall running back. He is a damn good football player, as much as I hate to say it. But, if you take Peterson off of the Vikings, their offense is nothing. I can't say the same about Williams.

Well the reason for not catching a lot of passes is simple, Chester Taylor. In fact, I don't know why they don't throw to AP more, just to keep other teams honest and not honed in solely on the run. I DO agree with you that he needs to learn how to pass protect a little bit better, as he does occasionally miss the LB on blitzes (we can watch for that this weekend against the GMen, as they blitz a ton). I, as stated earlier, also think AP is better because the passing game in Minn is definitely inferior to what is going on down in Carolina with 1 superstar and one solid receiver (Smith and Musin), which, as I stated before, allows teams to stack the box against Minn. Also, TD's are not a designator of a good running back, as I remember DWill scoring 4, 1-yard touchdowns one game, which doesn't indicate anything other than a good offensive line that gets a good push near the goal line. All you have to do is look back a few years on the Giants to see that Ruben Droughns scored something ridiculous like 11 td's because he was a short yardage back. That is not to say that DWill is a short yardage back by any means, becuase of course he is not, but just to illustrate that TD's are not indicative of anything.

Now, his most impressive stat to me is the sheer number of long runs that he has had this year, i forget how many but I know he leads the NFL. Despite that, I do believe that AP is better, will have the better career, and is more deserving of the MVP award because without him on that team, no way that team wins more than 4-5 games with Ferotte at QB for the majority of the year and Chester Taylor getting the bulk of the carries (lets not forget the reason he is so efficient is cause AP wears down the D before CT comes in to run).

He is not going to get the award. Regardless of everything you said, having him this year did not help the Saints position in the standings.

If they give an award for best Quarterback, then perhaps he gets the award. Perhaps he will get the all pro award that comes out at the end of the season, although he faces some stiff competition.
