What do you see going on in the draft next year?

This year's TE class is disgustingly good. I see no reason to spend a lotof money or picks to get one.

Well technically, you have to spend one or the other ;)

For me, it'd depend on what the Steelers wanted, and that likely depends on just how deep into that doghouse he actually is (or if he truly is at all; it is still rumor at this point). Spending a fourth round pick or so for a guy you know can start immediately is arguably equal to taking a gamble on a college guy, all things considered.

Could Barnidge be the guy? Don't know. For as much as I like both King and Rosario for what they do though, neither of them is that one guy who can do it all.

If we re-sign Peppers, Gross and Hangartner while also managing to keep Ken Lucas in the fold (even if he's demoted) then most of our free agent shopping and drafting will be depth. In that scenario, tight end is the only position where I see a need for a new starter (DT is a possible, but Lewis could easily be kept as a starter).

All in all, that's not such a bad position to be in.

I don't see Miller going for at the very least a high 3rd. For a 4th, sure.

The other thing about guys like that is the contract that comes along with them.

It's all speculation anyways. What we think is a crowded position will probably be an area of need within a year.

Failure to re-sign any one of Peppers, Gross or Hangartner and the entire script changes radically.

And then there's injuries, age, free agent losses, criminal arrests, surprise retirements, unexpected cuts...

The offseason pretty much never plays out like we fans expect it to.

I really dont see us taking a TE. We have spent the last three drafts addressing that position, and they have done just fine, relative to what they're asked to do. I would much rather spend 80% of all picks in the trenches. The only skill positions I would want to address are corner and wideout.

At some point, it would also be wise to draft a quarterback...early! Not suggesting it be this particular draft, but it will be necessary sooner rather than later.

i think we have done really good the past few drafts. i think we go. DT, CB, OT, RB, LB, OG. and a few others with the supplemental draft if we get any picks. I say DT because i think fox will go defense early same as my pick for CB. I say OT because we need depth. LB cause of depth as well. I also think we need a vet WR just in case so keep hacket or sign someone. If we don't draft a rb then we probably are stuck with nick goings although i think fox will give briminham a chance to get spot and would win if did special teams. That's what i think we will do in draft.

Most seasons I wouldn't look at a TE as a high draft pick possibility.

But looking over the roster this year (again, assuming that we re-sign the important guys) where is there a glaring need for a starter?

Most of our positions need either depth or potential successors. TE is about the only spot where I can see real potential for upgrading the starter.

Of course, we know it still won't be a first round TE...
