Revisiting an OL question

I'd rather keep Moton at the position he's best at. If you're going to experiment with Christensen in the starting lineup it should be at LT (assuming Erving is injured) or LG.

If it is going to be done, and I'm not certain it's for the best, you keep Moton at RT and try Christensen at LT. Otherwise you make be having two problems at once. It's easier to shield one problem at a time since you've only got 11 guys to work with.

We discussed something like this a while back, but I'm revisiting it with a "knowing what we know now" look.

Regarding the current state of the O-Line, would you rather...

- Try Taylor Moton on the left and Brady Christensen or Trent Scott on the right

- Keep Moton on the right and try Brady Christensen on the left

- Keep Moton on the right, put Christensen inside and try to find our franchise left tackle in the offseason

Which of those sounds best to you?

FYI: For what it's worth, our buddy Ellis has stated this:

To be clear, this is not based on any kind of inside info, just an observation.

State your case. If it were up to you, what direction are you going?

Surprising, since everyone seems to think Paradis is the worst one.  I thought you even said that overall Erving wasn’t nearly as bad as the interior guys.
Either way what do you think is the best course of action among the options you gave?

Unfortunately Paradis is a great run blocker but below average pass blocker.

He's a defensive short stop in baseball. He's a starter in half the league, but he could be replaced with a bigger bat to sacrifice some defensive consistency and the team would be better for it.

But who has been an above average pass blocker this year? Moton?
Honestly Paradis might be our second best lineman, or at least playing 2nd best, if you factor run and pass block together.
When Paradis gets beat it tends to be pretty spectacular, like that first sack of the last game, but honestly almost all of them have struggled this year pass blocking.

Daley actually played a bit better last week at LG.  I think your best chance of turning the line around is if Daley can build on that, and IF BC and Moton can stabilize the OT spots, and IF Miller gets healthy and plays better or Brown develops at RG. Lots of IFs.

I want to see Daley block a game without  Paradis helping him out the majority of the time.  They wait a moment for Paradis to help Daley and then they blitz and Paradis is out of position.  It leaves Williams on an island by himself and they know which way Paradis is going to block.   Same thing in the Jets game.  Daley was in for Williams and Paradis went right to help Daley.   The only game with our full starting OL was the Saints and the line looked 2x better and it showed in the stats.

I hope you guys are not implying that Fitterer had roster control in Seattle?  He was not the GM there so whoever they ultimately drafted was not his call.

He is showing the same bad taste as they have, their is already a correlation from this offseason and Seatles oline issues of the 5 years. He did have a hand and now he has to prove he can find the kind of oline talent that Seatle hasn't while he was working there.

Having BC step up in a positive contribution soon would be a huge step in him proving that's not something we will be dealing with for a while.

He also whiffed big time by jumping on two free agent duds the first day, in the same way Seattle evaluates olinemen and why Wilsion has always had crappy olines when Fritts was director of college scouting and player personnel. Kind of relevant. I put this in the same perspective that he knows CBs, look at his history and the moves he made this season. It's an area he needs to do better.

Maybe get off his tit and look at it realistically and not through so much Kool-aide?

Christensen looks like a LT/RT not a guard, and if we want him at guard then we need to bulk him up. If I were going to play Christensen now then I'd put him at LT and leave Moton at RT.

The biggest thing that bothers me is that Deonte is not at RG. I don't care if he's slow at pulling and running down field he is a BRICK WALL at pass blocking.

Paradis is a constant problem and he's going to ruin Sam. We need to look at our practice squad for a center.

He got 2 in one draft. Both are at least potential guards. It's a start.

And all we know about those two are that the coaches don't think they are ready to play right now. They might be good, they might be just ok, or they might be bad. We'll just have to wait until they see the field to know.

Maybe you should stop assuming anything about anyone because so far you are wrong on both counts?

    • I think it will be hard to not go edge in the second if we go QB first. Say you have Starks, one of Bond/Egbuka, and maybe one Edge (don't have a name to throw out that is end of 1st round projected and may slide)... do you still go Starks? Just curious. I haven't looked into starks much, as I've been focused on QB, WR, and DL prospects.
