Said Dallas attacked us intelligently, because anytime you face a really fast but slighter up front defense, you run into it.  Bucky said they ran into the speed and thats how you negate it...  so there's that.

Anyway, two guys with pro scouting experience whose football opinions I greatly value, still believe in us.

Yep, said something similar in another thread.  Our defense is built to play with a lead, very much the way the Manning Colts built their defense.  Not as big, but very very fast and able to get after the QB.  That was definitely how you beat Freeney, you ran at him, all game long.

This was the first time our defense was asked to stop a team from running when the other team had the lead and could afford to just run and grind clock.  I'm unsurprised that we got gashed.  Derek Brown is a man, but when he's the only anchor you've got, it's not enough.

It's kinda like the secret is out now.  You can run at this defense, but you cannot run away from them.

While I mostly agree, it was a perfect storm of many different variables that allowed that to happen yesterday too.  It may be a testament to how good Dallas is, again, but, the was by far the worst tackling we had through 4 weeks.  We were able to contain the run the first 3 weeks, in large part, because guys were taking the runner down on first contact, and if they didn't, they held up the runner long enough for the calvary to come clean him up.  None of that was happening yesterday...  The first 3 weeks we also were making contact either behind the LOS or within the first 4 yards...  that wasn't happening yesterday either.

To cite an old Foxism - we picked a bad day to have a bad day.

It was just a single game in a 17 games season. We played well in areas and were disadvantaged by some things outside our control. (officiating) No reason to be down on the Panthers if you have any objectivity. And Dallas is good (ugh), despite the edge they were given in some instances, and it was a road game against that good team. If we made a 3rd down stop late, we'd have gotten the ball with an opportunity to tie, despite everything. I see lots of positives. No one is going 17-0. (this year, imho)

So do I.

Then next year we will be dominant (provided we get our collective heads out of our arses and actually fix the OL with players who are good at the job rather than guys whose qualifications are they can play several spots on the line).

One of the places I like this coaching staff better than previous ones is I think they're smart enough to realize when they need to do a different thing (get good, likely specialized players instead of mediocre versatile ones) rather than just thinking they need to do the old thing a little better.

Results depend on who can be had, I guess, but I fully expect this offseason to be very OL centric.

I don't get the we are small comment. Sure our OLBs are not large but Brown is 320 and 6' 5". Jones is 320 and 6'4"

as well. Fox is 6'3" and light at 260.  Nixon is 6'3" and 305. We are fast and athletic but not really small in the middle which is where all those cutback runs went. Brown was getting tossed and Jones was getting pushed as well. It was poor technique more than size to me. We played small but we shouldn't have.

Our edge defenders are small.  Hence why Gross-Matos getting healthy will be very important.  Will also let Fox play on the edge more too.

They are outside linebackers. They are usually smaller guys who are very strong and athletic. Fox and Matos are better against the run for sure and being able to rotate guys in to keep them fresh is a real necessity which only happens when we have good depth.  Snow is likely still figuring out what to do. This is the first adversity this team has faced. So this should be interesting to see what changes if any we make.

Was just watching their MTS podcast and they still seemed really impressed with Darnold and said Darnold to DJ is quickly becoming one of the best QB/WR duos in the league.  They said  "the Panthers will be fine," that we're not going away anytime soon, and they'll be talking about us all season. They really harped on that 3rd quarter.  Overall, they seemed less down on us as a result of the game and more impressed with just how good Dallas is.  They mentioned how they've featured our defense on their podcast multiple times and that we are for real - fast and aggressive, but Dallas was just that physical.   (No mention of how getting turnovers negated and being allowed to hold every play enables you to be more physical, but who's counting?😂)  Said Dallas attacked us intelligently, because anytime you face a really fast but slighter up front defense, you run into it.  Bucky said they ran into the speed and thats how you negate it...  so there's that.

The host spent about 20 seconds talking about Sam Darnold and just 60 seconds talking about the Panthers (and still they veered back to the Cowboys whom they talked about for over 2 minutes)

The other guys just didn't seem like they were interested in chiming in about the Panthers or more in particular, Sam Darnold.    They seemed like they wanted to talk about the Cowturds more.    sigh.....

They hit the nail on the head with the “running into a slight D front.” That won’t be the case if we play them again and have YGM back. He was a crucial scratch for that game. If we have a full roster for that game I think we win. Hopefully we get a rematch.

I think there is a big difference in “the secret being out” and getting run into by Dallas with one of your best run defenders out of the game. Zeke, Pollard and that line are maybe the best running game in the league. They just ran it on us without YGM…Idt other teams do that to us. Kamara and the Saints couldn’t. Laremy Tunsil, David Johnson and the Texans couldn’t. Just think it was a perfect storm.
