A critique of Darnold through 4 games

As much as I loved Cam running the ball I was way more impressed with his passing numbers. Passing TD-wise so far Darnold has been unimpressive. I hope it changed. 

Darnold is tied for 5th in the NFL in combined TDs. I have no issue with that. I fully expect his rushing TDs to come back to Earth as defenses account for the threat, but that should also open up opportunities.

Our redzone offense isn't as bad as some of y'all are making it out to be and it's trending upward. We're 15th in redzone TD% on the year and 9th over the last three games. We were 100% yesterday.

I would rather just have a QB that can pass TDs. 
This year and last year we seem to have a coaching staff that think you have to use all 100 yards of the field before you can try for the endzone. 
I would just like to see a QB that passes for a lot of TDs. But to each his own

Sam is scoring points so that's a good thing but you have to consider him running into the endzone isn't likely sustainable the rest of the way and you don't want to see him out there risking big hits too often either. Our redzone percentage is better bc of that I would be happier if the improvement were from our backs or receivers. We traded an option away in Arnold who isn't a huge loss but had a good game the week before and as we saw against Dallas Ian Thomas is still doing Ian Thomas things in his fourth year. Definitely looking to see Sam and Brady get this deep passing game going and get the ball to other playmakers in the redzone in this upcoming stretch.

Yet another post by Mr. Scot where you focus only on certain parts. I also said the draft before this current season, but that wouldn't allow you to say loser mentality would it.

Darnold took what the defense gave him on those runs and he had a high probability of success  he saw it, he executed. 

look, I was not on his band wagon but I give him his due 

he got chicken poo and he made chicken salad   Stop bitching about it   Defenses will now have to account for that 

look at the number of times he as sacked, rushed and hit.  Even a Brady would look like crap with that 

same story for the Panthers, different year, different decade   No oline   No second half defensive adjustments  no in game adjustments to counter in 3 qtr 

of course, cmc, will make aalll things better if and when he gets in the field again, for how long, who knows.

It’s a young team, still developing.  You do what you have to do to score points, and up to the game with Dallas, no one accounted for his running ability.  Those basketball moves again, use the skills you have.

One very positive, he seems to be gaining more cred with his teammates, judging from comments by players like Reddick and McCaffrey, for example.  He’s one of them, not “The QB”.  Let’s see how it goes.

*Even our boards are surprised by the running TDs, the coaching staff while he was in college didn’t like him running, nor did the Jets.

Darnold is on pace for more than 40 TDs... which is impressive.  I don't know how you discount his rushing TDs in today's league. Especially with how we've struggled in the red zone last year without them... Sure, I would prefer passing TDs, but I'll take any TDs we can get in the red zone.

Darnold does need to improve but every QB has missed opportunities... I'm excited to see how he grows thru the season.

We've spent the last few years arguing (correctly so) that rushing stats and touchdowns should be considered when evaluating quarterback play with Newton.

Now suddenly somebody is arguing that they shouldn't be?

Yes, passing ability is more essential than running ability, but having both is great.
