Richard Marshall

Hes good, but Captain has shown flashes that he may become a very very legit corner. I dont think that we can afford to have Marshall and Gamble locked up in giant contracts....seeing as how Thomas Davis is due to get paid as well.

It's worth remembering that all of the things we're saying about Captain right now, we were saying about Marshall a couple years ago.

He is def worth keeping at the right price. He has good coverage although most people do not think so and he is one of the better tacklers and ball hawks. He is def not worth Gamble money but then again I dont think Gamble is worth that money ether.

He hasn't been great but he's shown progress this year in a new system and with time could improve further with more experience in the system. This could be a good year to resign him because he he hasn't played well enough to deserve a huge contract and I highly doubt any team would offer him one. So its possible we could lock him in with a reasonable contract and solidify the CB position for a while. Or if he doesn't improve here he's still better than a lot of starting CBs in the league and would still have some trade value without a big contract looming over him.

I think it's reasonable to say he could get on with another team. Could he get on another team with a fat contract? Fat chance. Could he get on with a very good team? Also pretty unlikely. He has plenty of chances outside of the Panthers, but staying with the Panthers is the least painful and risky of his decisions.

That's what I was saying. He's not going to command that much attention or money in FA. So if we resign him with a reasonable contract and he plays well for us then great. Or if Captain ends up bumping him down to the nickel then he could be worth a 4th or possibly even 3rd round pick to a team in need of a cornerback. It really seems like a win win for us to resign him.

If he gets bumped to the Nickel and he can't be traded for anything substantial then it's definitely not a good idea to re-sign him. I don't know much about trading and draft picks so I really can't say.

He's definitely worthless (in this team/for the money he wants) if he gets bumped to the Nickel, though.

He has show to be not a great, but a solid cornerback and would be worth a reasonable contract. I highly doubt he would regress in his performance. Getting bumped down to the nickel would assume that Captain turns out to be a shutdown corner and thus, would mean we have too much of a good thing.

To be honest. Marshall is Ricky manny Jr like. If Marshall wants a starting Job next year he better take what carolina offers him. Marsh been around avg are just above that. Unless Marshall takes what Panthers offer him. Marshall will just end up going to another team like Ricky did to the bears and end up been a back up and a few years later been release and never heard from again. Marshall has only played as starter for one year. Not many teams out there are going to offer him a big pay day. So right now the panthers hold all of the cards right now. Marshall is a dime a dozen on the FA market come the offseason.

What is everyone's opinion on Mr. Marshall. He is a restricted free agent at the end of the season, and his agent said few years ago he will be looking for a monster contract. I for one am not a huge fan of him and it seems like he blows a lot of coverage. He is an above average tackler, but there is somethig about him I do not like.

How does everyone feel about him?

The key words being RESTRICTED. I think we try to sign him to a well compensated contract but we won't sell the farm to keep him. If someone thinks that he is worthy of a huge contract then let them have him. We will get the compensatory picks for him. Personally I don't think any team will go out of their way to pay him stupid money (outside the Raider)

I like him and having him tandemed with Chris Gamble for a couple of years won't hurt our defense. Hurney has done a good job of getting backups that will step up when the time comes I don't see that we won't again.

Go Panthers
