Panthers were in trade talks for CJ even before Horn was injured

Just spoke to a @Panthers source who had this to say about CJ Henderson.

- @Panthers and Jags started discussing this deal during training camp/ preseason.

- They’re optimistic CJ will go vs. Dallas.

- “This is in no way going to impact Donte [Jackson]’s contract.”

- 3-0 start didn’t dictate deal. It’s a long term play.

- Confirmed they reached out to Richard Sherman.

- CJ is the “prototype corner” that Fitterer/Morgan pursued in Seattle. Seems like that’s the blueprint. 

- DB’s Coach Evan Cooper offered CJ in HS. Strong relationship.

Because CJ is essentially in a 3 year, $7M contract. Even if you include the Arnold dead money it’s like $10M for 3 years of CJ

No it won’t. He’s on a rookie deal and you need three good corners. You can pay Jackson and have two studs on rookie deals.

The Panthers believe they can win now, and this move was indicative of that.

Replacing a talented rookie with another talented young player, who will be an immediate contributor.

Panthers front office have done so well rummaging through the Jets scraps that they're now looking at other trash organizations failed draft picks. Seems like they're looking for players who should play better than they have where the organization was the main culprit.

I doubt it and I doubt he was ever all that seriously in play. We never even made him an offer. He doesn't really fit our system. We're all man coverage now, Sherman excelled in zone.

Of course you can.

Schematically it doesn’t work out that well. All 3 of our guys excel on the outside.
