The Athletic not very impressed with Sam Darnold

His arm talent is what most intrigued me looking at his Jets tape but it's minimizing those bad moments and coming up big when we need him that tell the tale. If he continues to do that who knows what the ceiling will be. But with this oline he is going to have to be more careful sensing pressure and not trying to do too much. For all the positive talk of the line which has been better than expected Sam has at moments made them look much better similar to how Ted did last year. That strike in the redzone where he moved to his right with the pocket collapsing comes to mind.

I don't see how you could be disappointed at this point. He's making his reads and getting the ball out very fast. I love how he'll pump fake and sell faux QB runs. He's been very poised and seems like he's starting to become more relaxed. He's got a rocket arm and he'll use it when the opportunity proceeds itself. He throws darts into tight windows. He can hit the checkdown when he needs to but that isn't his first option. When the pocket collapses he's shown the ability to escape and improvise. Several plays yesterday could have been disasters if he wouldn't have started scrambling. That play when he saw the safety sitting there waiting to jump the route so he went the other way was next level.

I think he has the potential to be THE guy. It's going to be interesting to see how he does when the offensive line improves and gives him more time. He's already grown immensely. Sean Ryan has done an excellent job helping him grow. His next big step should be deep ball accuracy. If he can get a bit better in that category the sky is the limit.

For Darnold and what most thought it seems relatively positive.

I'm not particularly concerned with what media think of players to begin with though.

I used to tell my young staff members, which holds true for almost anything in life….it’s easier to build a good reputation, than repair a bad one.

Sam needs to work doubly hard to change that perception.  He has weapons, and a kick butt defense now.

Also like a couple other people have pointed out...what sort of fugin moron would have Brady circling the Saints in his second season coming off two L's previously lol.

"he knows the Saints" ...oh yea man like Brady was a play calling his ass off yesterday. His offense thus far hasn't looked like it has rhythm even as they perform well. You can clearly see offenses who are in a flow and most of the time the Panthers look like they are just calling static plays rather than being in a groove.

300yds 2TDs 1int.

Attach any other name to this stat line (Besides our former QB1) and it would be celebrated.

Nah, its the Panthers.  Has to be fool's gold.

So tired and lazy.  Just stfu already.  Id rather they just ignore us altogether rather than pretend they even know what our logo looks like.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
