the OL has not sucked so far

All off-season the Huddle was worried about the OL.  The belief seemed to be that the team would take a half-dozen sacks per game and Darnold would be constantly running for his life.

The reality has been far from that. 

In the first two games the OL has looked fine.  Darnold has been sacked once a game or so.  He's looked fairly cool & calm in the pocket. 

The OL hasn't been the trash fire many expected it to be.   Even with Elflein & Erving getting banged up, the team has been able to plug in replacements (including the rookie Christensen today) without skipping a beat.

I must say I've been pleasantly surprised with the "not horrible" OL play so far.  And that's against two teams with good DL.

Saints had all of the DLine starters there today.  Jordan, Tuttle, Ringo and Granderson are all first team and started.

Right? The reason Darnold isn't getting sacked is because our offense is predicated on getting the ball out fast (and even then Darnold has been under quite a bit of pressure). When he does have to hold onto the ball a little longer, our o-line collapses. Not to mention their run blocking.

Must not, I see Darnold get constant 3+ seconds in the pocket. Also Darnold has really great awareness most of the time and good movement.

The line wasn't perfect, but it wasn't the garbage so many predicted.   Sam wasn't getting killed or running for his life... that was Jaemis Winston.

Yeah, the OL run blocking has not been as good as I would like.  I think our short yardage / goal line push needs to improve.  But the ubertalented CMC seems to make a lot of those issues just disappear.

Yup.

This is really going to be tough for some.  Many of the Darnold haters were the same ones ripping on our o-linemen.

Put Christensen at LG and Deonte Brown at RG, then we will be rolling.

It hasn't been as bad as we thought but it still isn't good. Darnold gets the ball out fast and he seems to have good pocket awareness.
