So it actually helps Gano since he benefits from that skew. Still one of the worst.

Crazy that despite 33 yard extra points counting for him, Gano's average kick distance was 46.4 yards. So that means the overwhelming majority of his field goals were 50+. Which makes 63% pretty average at least.

Um no the opposite, he kicked 33yd XPs for most of his career.

XPs simply didn't count toward the data prior to them getting moved back. 33 yards is shorter than the average distance for every kicker on the list. Having XPs count toward his clutch numbers shortened his overall average distance and gave him an advantage versus kickers who kicked their entire career prior to this change. Take away those XPs and Gano's clutch percentage likely stops. Maybe considerably.

You’d have to dig into the numbers to prove that. I think it’s unfair to weight XPs for some kickers and not others because of a rule change. I think Gano was honestly worse closer to the goal posts than further away. I think if you take away the XPs his numbers might actually improve.

It would be unfair to count XPs back in the day when missing an XP was an extreme rarity. That would falsely inflate the numbers.

You probably want to actually look at the data that's available. His average distance was 46.4 yards. That's 2nd most on the entire list and by a considerable margin. The difference in yardage between Gano and 3rd place (43.6 yards or 2.8 yards difference) is the same as the difference between 3rd place and 19th place on the list. In other words, Gano (and Zuerlein at a whopping 48.4 yard average) is a huge outlier and was faced with harder kicks than the average person. If he had an equal number or xps and field goals, his average field goal would've had to be 59.8 yards. Obviously they aren't equal, but even if you assume 2 to 1 in favor of field goals, that's an average of 52.5 yards per field goal. Not a chip shot.

He's a career 63% 50+ yard kicker. He's a career 83% 40-49 yard kicker. The guy just sucks at clutch kicks.

They shouldn’t be counted at all. It could be a separate statistic for kickers post 2015. XPs are worth 1 point. FGs are 3. And they’re weighted the same in that metric. Not fair.

He did have that one bomb against the Giants but other than that I think your correct.

People tend to remember the bad more than the good.  Truth is that regarding game winners, he made more than he missed.

2013 hit game winner vs the forty niners, although it was at the 10 minute mark of the 4th qtr.
2015 hit game winner in ot against the Colts
2015 hit game winner against the Giants after they came back from a big lead
2017 hit game winner against the Patriots in New England after they came back
2018 The big one against the Giants.

Panther Gano is still better than anyone since.

Shame on you smooth brains that hated on Gano cause he went 35/36.

Yea got injuried, guess what is also got healthy!! then CUT!!

I defend him all the time, same for bradberry(who looked sorta bad vs wft), even shaq(not the salary). Can not bump threads cause huddle doesnt keep older enough records and locks old threads. Huddle needs to read their collective thoughts and go sit in their shame closet....

But they're not. It's only about kicks that can tie or create a lead. Regardless of the actual points scored, those kicks are basically equal.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
