Honestly I think Smith just used to kill teams - the smoke route was just the easiest way to get the ball in his hands once the DB started playing 7 yards off (cos he knew he'd be roasted if he played man-up). 

He's on our Mount Rushmore of Panthers - ridiculously good player.
