Dwayne Jarrett

Moose is >>>>>>>> Jarrett, even with age slapping him around.

I'm seriously missing something about Jarrett. The guy is invisible and hasn't shown enough to break into the lineup unless injuries put him there. When he has gotten chances, he hasn't looked like anything special.

Jarrett needs to try the Mike Williams thing, bulk up, and give TE a whack. Pretty sure it'll have the same results, though.

Fine, provide me a link where a Panthers beat writer has claimed that Jarrett was outperforming Moose in practice. And I'm not talking about Jarrett having a good practice "at times", I'm talking about consistently outperforming Moose, because that's what it would take for Jarrett to pass him on the depth chart.

well, you said "so how about reporting back to the rest of us the next time you're at a Panthers practice and see Jarrett outplaying Moose?"

obivously that has been done and I didn't read that as you asking for information where Jarrett has outperformed Moose at every single practice consistantly.

Moose is a better blocker. Moose has looked sad the majority of the year as a WR. No reason to think the 2009 Moose is the best option. Sunday is all that matters. Jarrett has looked better overall on his plays in the passing game then Moose. That has been on the TV every week.

well, that just isn't true. In limited work Jarrett has shown he can get open now.

Practice? Read any beat writer that covers the Panthers and attends practice.....Jarrett often is reported as the best WR in practice the past 2 seasons at times. It hasn't earned him reps on Sunday. So, there are plenty of reports that Jarrett has done exactly that before. So if on occassions he looks like the best on the team.....it is a safe bet he met your criteria of looking better than Moose on the practice field before.

Oh ok, now I get it. You're going off the opinions of the beat writers based on their articles, while I'm going off the opinions of the coaches based on their actions.

I hate to come across the wrong way here, but I think my experts are better at evaluating personnel than your experts are... ;)

I have about 5 opinions on the Panthers that I am stuck on and it will take me being hit in the face repeatedly by undisputable evidence for me to ever change. They are NOT facts but they are my opinions. This is a message board so I it is my job to treat them as 100% fact.

1. Jarrett is good enough to start (realized it mid season last year)

2. Godfrey isn't a S (realized mid season last year)

3. Gamble is overrated (realized in 07)

4. The strengths of John Fox are also his biggest weaknesses

5. People don't realize how big of an impact Peppers really has(of course he ain't worth his current paycheck but that is a different animal)

It is what it is....if you ask me.

So ultimately what you are saying is that....it doesn't matter what you and I see on Sunday, it doesn't matter what guys with inside privilages see in practice......if Fox says it is....it is. It is what it is.

So what are you seeing on Sundays that proves Jarrett should be getting more time than Moose? I guess I need to borrow your glasses, because I'm not seeing Jarrett make too many plays when he's in the game. I mean, is this all because he almost made a first down one time Sunday? I have to ask, because I know for a fact that Moose actually did make a couple of first downs, there was no "almost" about it.

what haven't you liked about Jarrett when he has been thrown to this year?

I have liked what I have seen when they have looked to him. Moose had a good game against Atlanta. I haven't liked anything about Moose's game outside of blocking this year.....it has been sad (with the exception of this past Sunday).

How would you describe Moose's play prior to this past Sunday?

A game against Atlanta doesn't change my mind on what Moose and Jake have shown overall this year.

Even FOX has said he Jarrett has been given few opportunities but every time he is given one he has come through......Jarrett has done enough and shown enough to get more reps. Personally I would like to see more than 2 WRs on the field. I know that ain't gonna happen and Fox is only gonna run 2 w/ 1 or even TEs running routes......since that is what he does I have to opt for Jarrett over Moose.

Dwayne Jarrett is improving, but there's no way he's on muhammed's level, which isn't even very high.

For one thing, I'm still waiting for Jarrett to break an actual tackle in an actual game. He came so close this week. I'm pulling for him.

Gary Barnidge and Dante Rosario have both proven that they are more reliable reveivers than Dwayne Jarrett, but whatever. Fox is just too loyal to vets...you're right.

they have been given more opportunity....there is a difference.

also, I don't sing the song about Fox being too loyal to vets.....he is just stubborn in general. It applies to more than just vets.....

Plus, Jake would be better if Fox would run more sets w/ 3 WRs and not just doing it when down and late.

What you and I see on Sunday is all well and good, but be honest. Aren't we both just casual observers, fans though we may be? I study defenses, I read way too much about football, I research stats and look at formations and all that, but at the end of the day it's still just a hobby. I've written articles and been called an expert because of that, which is just laughable to me.

And Fox is the boss, but it's not just Fox. It's Fox, Davidson, and Williamson who look at wide receivers. I don't think for a minute that Davidson and Williamson don't have Fox's ear. I also think Hurney has a say, he's paying this guy a second round salary and would like for him to have a shot.

But at the end of the day, Fox is the one who's paycheck depends on the people who line up on the field. If he chooses wrong, Gantt and Fowler and Reed and Co. all make the same amount of money, but Fox is out of a job. And over time he's proven to be consistent and one of the best coaches in the NFL. So of course I put more stock in what he says.

And it doesn't hurt that in my fevered imagination I've seen Jarrett look like he's running the wrong route, and I've seen him let balls fly through his hands, and for all his great catches I have yet to see one score points. I just don't see the same great player that you do.

you may be right....maybe we are just casual observers and Fox and company know best. Our maybe, I am the greatest armchair QB alive? Either way, the latter is more fun. :cheers2:

Yeah, Barnidge has been here a year less than Jarrett, and he's battling two vets for playing time. I just don't get CRA's logic at all.

For the record, I have defended Jarrett plenty of times on here, but there is no way I'm blaming the coaching staff or the QB for his inability to make the most of his opportunities. Jake has said repeatedly that he's not about to give up on Jarrett and that he wants him to be good, and there is no doubt in my mind that Fox feels exactly the same way.

Hell, if people really want to criticize Fox, they need to forget about who's starting the games, or what he says in his pressers, and look at his inability to make half time adjustments. That is the most legitimate and fair criticism that anybody can ever level at Fox.
