Did anybody listen to the Dan Morgan on WFNZ a couple of days ago? They asked him if he thought that Godfrey would get his job back, and he said no way. He said that, knowing Fox, it just ain't gonna happen. So there you go, a real insider has a different opinion than fans that just assume Fox only plays vets because he's stubborn. I don't know why people are trying to use Godfrey as an example anyway, since he is a vet who's being replaced by a rookie. That kind of goes against this whole argument, does it not?

The truth is that just about every HC in the league would rather not start a rookie if they have a vet that can do the job. This league is about consistency, and players become vets because they can consistently be counted on to get the job done.

As far as Jarrett goes, I promise that there is not a coach or player in the Panthers organization who doesn't want him to succeed. There is no conspiracy to keep him down.

Godfrey hasn't been replaced yet......

Not saying they are trying to keep him down....Fox is simply going to stick w/ Moose this year out of loyalty. I am not big on the Fox only sticks w/ vet angle...Fox is just stubborn and you can see it w/ a variety of positions over the years in Carolina.

Yeah, it's all about loyalty to Moose, nevermind the annoying little fact that Moose was making plays Sunday.

yeah, one game against the horrific Atl secondary makes up for the fact he hasn't been able to get open all season and looked below average.

two games with the amount of targets Moose gets and Jarrett prove he should have the job. Fox won't give it too him. Not b/c he wants Jarrett to fail or b/c he prefers vets......but b/c Fox is too loyal once he invests in someone. Fox will tinker w/ jobs and start different guys....but IMO there is a clear difference when he invests in someone....he will ride them out regardless (and at least let them finish a season).

I sure wish I had the amount of game tape you seem to have at your disposal, and especially the time you have to study it. And the playbook would be nice too, where did you get your copy?

Because you seem really certain that Jarrett would do better than Moose if he was starting, despite all of the evidence to the contrary. I guess that if I had the tapes and books at my disposal, I would see how he's running perfect routes and is always where he's supposed to be, blocking well and sealing the outside for Williams and Stewart on demand, and catching everything thrown his way. In the meantime Moose is doing none of these things.

That sure sounds like what you're saying here. I'm not as fortunate as you in that I only get to look at game as it's played, and I don't know what's in the playbook or what was actually called. So I have to go by the opinions of those who wrote the playbook and called the plays and who evaluate the hell out of the tape every week.

And they still choose to start Moose, despite all the evidence you seem to have at your disposal. Amazing...

So when has Jarrett ever looked above average? Hell, he started the Saints game and had a golden opportunity to make the biggest play of his career, and he failed. People can bitch about Delhomme all they want, but that was a damn good throw he made on that bomb to Jarrett. You even had a former OC and HC calling the game, and he described exactly why that was a good throw and said that Jarrett has to make those catches if he wants the team to have confidence in him.

Just b/c Fox is the HC doesn't mean b/c he does something means it is always right. That ain't how the world works. Fox has his flaws. You choose to not think there are any in regards to his depth chart....that is fine w/ me. I just disagree.

How about just getting open consistently? That would be a great start for Jarrett, but it hasn't happened yet when he got his shot.

I'm with Cyberjag though. You guys seem to have an insiders opinion (or at least you think you do), so how about reporting back to the rest of us the next time you're at a Panthers practice and see Jarrett outplaying Moose?

When has he gotten a chance? 1 target per game on average ain't gonna do anything.

Look at what he did in NO. He got some looks that week. He looked good. Yeah, he lost ONE ball....one he should have and needed to catch.

Question, how many times has Moose ran that route this season? How many times did Moose ever get into position to make that type catch?

well, that just isn't true. In limited work Jarrett has shown he can get open now.

Practice? Read any beat writer that covers the Panthers and attends practice.....Jarrett often is reported as the best WR in practice the past 2 seasons at times. It hasn't earned him reps on Sunday. So, there are plenty of reports that Jarrett has done exactly that before. So if on occassions he looks like the best on the team.....it is a safe bet he met your criteria of looking better than Moose on the practice field before.

Fine, provide me a link where a Panthers beat writer has claimed that Jarrett was outperforming Moose in practice. And I'm not talking about Jarrett having a good practice "at times", I'm talking about consistently outperforming Moose, because that's what it would take for Jarrett to pass him on the depth chart.

I haven't said he was perfect. But in three years it's pretty telling that Jarrett hasn't earned anyone's trust. They spend a second round pick on him and you can bet they would dearly love for him to succeed. Based on the investment they've made in him alone, he's more likely to get a shot in a game than any 10 players who are lighting it up on the practice squad. Fox and Co. WANT the guy to succeed.

And yet, he isn't. Somehow in the large collection of high draft picks that Fox has assembled into a starting line-up, Jarrett has become the one guy who is unfairly evaluated. Kalil's starting. So is King. Otah, Gross, Wharton, Williams, they've all cracked the lineup. Fox drafted all of those guys, and figured out on his own that they were the best at their positions and deserved the starting nod. But in Jarrett's case, he's just got blinders on and has decided to go with Hackett. I mean Moose.

Maybe it's just a thing that Fox has with receivers, they suck here but go light things up when they get their shots elsewhere. I know Carter and Colbert are certainly good examples of that, right? Throw in Gaines at tight end--Fox just can't work with people who catch the ball, huh?

You want to think he's made a mistake, but there's no compelling evidence to suggest he has. There's no pattern of his making those sorts of mistakes, and honestly I can't think of a single player that has played poorly under Fox and went elsewhere and shined. I understand that you disagree, but I still can't figure out what you're basing your disagreement on.

Jarrett isn't getting it done. People are blaming Jake, Fox, and Davidson. People are saying that the only reason other players look better than him is because they play against poor competition. People are making excuses for him left and right. But at the end of the day, no matter why it is, he's not getting it done while others are. And so he sits, and is a potential wasted pick until he figures out how to contribute when it counts.
