That is because Moose and Smitty have earned it. Quarterbacks need chemistry with their wide receivers and Jarrrett likely doesn't have it yet with Jake. You can't fault your quarterback because he throws to guys who have shown they come through when needed instead of a new guy who is largely unproven.
you can't earn it if you aren't given a chance to. if your QB only has eyes for 2 WRs and every other receiving option is an afterthought, you don't stand much of a chance.

we have jake/smith/moose as the good ol' boys. they do ok but i would rather have a QB that spreads the ball around more.

jake has proven that he is an old dog that can't learn new tricks. you can't improve his mechanics, you can't expand his playbook, and you can't make him look at other receivers.

i just don't buy this crap of not throwing to or utilizing certain unproven players because they haven't proven that they can play in real game situations...problem is that you can't prove anything without a chance to.

get a QB who is willing to use all of his options and you will have a team that wins more. i want a QB whose favorite target is always the open man. as long as jake is here that won't happen.

We always end up with a quick guy or tough guy...they need a guy with hands and a hunger...like Smith.

Seriously though...Colbert tough, but couldn't catch, Carter was the fastest person on the panthers when we had him, a few steps ahead of smith, again couldn't catch or gage his speed.

I want to see a guy with hands like Harrison or rice back in the day, where the ball just seems to 'stick' to them.

Hopefully this is just because he is fresh and will become more comfortable.

It is a myth that Jake doesn't spread the ball around. We have discussed this ad nauseum. Smitty and Moose combined account for 51% of Jake's attempts. Smith 76 targets and Moose 49 targets for a combined total of 125 of his total of 245. That means the other receivers, tight ends, and running backs are targeted just as often as the first and second receivers. That is pretty typical of most quarterbacks in the NFL.

If you watched the game on Sunday then you saw Jake spread it around and audibelize while using the no-huddle. He was constantly looking for the one on one matchups and changing plays based on the defensive coverage. He may have not done it all year but he demonstrated he can if he is on and they let him run the offense.

my point was, people are being critical of the guy, and he hasn't played much, which isn't his fault. Thats all im saying.

He shares the blame as well. He hasn't done much to earn the time either. Moose was picked up largely because Jarrett was a huge disappointment in his rookie season. If he had played well out of the chute he would be getting playing time.

jeez. nobody is saying the kid is Jerry Rice. But hes not a bust. he hasn't played. It doesn't matter. no one listens to reason. Its just like in 2001 for someone to say Steve smith can't play receiver after being used on the field sparingly.

No it's not even close. Smith came here as a returner and made the probowl his rookie year. Even then he got 10 catches. When he got the chance to play receiver in his second year he caught 54 for almost 100 yards. Jarret by comparison has only 26 catches and 277 yards in 3 seasons so far. Anyone who thinks he didn't bring this on himself with poor effort, shoddy preparation, and his poor attitude are totally ignoring the reality since he got here.

Dwayne is a Posession reciever. and also he is 6' 4" 220lbs. he should be breaking tackles. i have noticed that it is harder for a single db to bring him down. we should play to his strengths. that is what good coaching should do. we cant cling to the past forever. moose is not our future and eventually neither will smith. we need to push more playing time for him.

How about the play where the ball just went right through his hands? That showed me a lot of ball that he didn't possess...

that type of catch is one of the hardest to catch. I give him a break. He is very young and lack of playing time.

He needs more catches to gain confidence.

He has done quite damn well with the VERY LITTLE time he has had on the field.

This guy has had chances and done very little with them. His lack of playing time has been a by-product of his lack of learning time. That play Sunday was the first time he showed the tenacity needed for a possession receiver, far too many times I have seen him go down on first contact.

Our distribution of passes has actually been spread out this year. We have 7 receivers with 10 or more catches. By comparison, the Falcons only have 4 receivers with 10 or more catches, even though they have thrown more than we have. Fans keep repeating that we only throw to Smith and Moose, but the stats just don't support that belief.

Of course Smith and Moose are going to have more catches than anyone else because they are our starting receivers. But our distribution is similar to most other NFL teams.

Jarrett- 17 targets- 2 drops- 66% completion rate-26.7% first downs

Moose- 49 targets- 1 drop- 61% competion rate- 36.7% first downs

Technically Jarrett has caught a higher percentage than Moose but as for lack of drops, first down percentages and impact in the game- Moose is much better. I will take his 30 catches over Jarrett's 9 anyday especially given the higher first down percentages You would expect it the other way around given that Jarrett comes in on third down and almost all throws to him are an attempt to get a first down.

And no I don't think that Jarrett would keep that high of a percentage if he played more often.

Not that it matters, but sportsline only shows 15 targets for Jarrett.

Jarrett needs more reps. I don't think there is any arguement for him to not have more. I am fine leaving Moose on the field but Jarrett has shown enough that a coach has to continue to increase the work.....otherwise you will never know what you have.

Jake sucks. Jake sucking isn't all his fault. He his tunnel vision works against him a lot more with so many sets on passing downs w/ only 2 WRs working the field.

see, this is the type comment you normally unload on. People making assumptions they know what is "really" going on. Now I am not saying what you are suggesting is wrong or right......you just seem to always have a problem when others do it.
