Last year Snow did a lot of 3 man rushes where we dropped everyone back and hoped we could apply pressure. They never ever seemed to work. I don't remember seeing any of those yesterday. Am I misrembering? If not I'll take it that's just an adjustment that Snow made. The pressure worked yesterday.

Those fronts were pretty much dictated by available personnel.  As the talent level increases the more types of exotic fronts you can run.  Has nothing to do with preference.

I don't care if we were playing freaking Bishop Sycamore out there yesterday, the Panthers defense was fugging LEGIT...

The Jets had 2 1st rounders starting on that line.  You can make all the excuses you want, but these are professionals, and the Panthers defense had their way with them for a lot of the game.

I'll give Zach Wilson a lot of credit... I still don't know how he got up from that Derrick Brown hit... that was as violent of a legal QB hit as I have seen in a while...

It's early, but this defense is starting to remind me of the 1996 defense for those of us old enough to remember... still a LONG way to go to proclaim these guys are as good as the '96 squad, but what a start.

Pressure coming from anywhere and everywhere... Phil Snow had these boys cooking yesterday!!

This.  Phil Snow is playing with a full deck this season, and it shows.

Snow was a DAWG calling plays out there yesterday.  Again, I don't care who we were playing, that defensive performance yesterday was the best we have seen in 3 years.

This is a playoff caliber defense... offense and ST gotta step up

I wouldn't say he's working with a full deck yet,but he has more cards than last season.  The line is much better but the LB position is thin as well as the secondary.  They are also raw and inexperienced.  So in short they are good but still a work in progress.

Agree that personnel is improved but the 3-5-3 he imported last year from college. He pretty much gave up the 3 man prevent and rushed 4 or more all day long. I hope we make the transition to more man when Abouye returns week 3.  I thought that Jackson played well but there were a lot of holes in the zone yesterday. Pressure really helped.

This defense is still being somewhat dictated by the talent available and probably will be for another season or two.  The lineup may differ from game to game depending on the match up of course.   I don't think we've season the final iteration of this defense.  Hell we may never have one preferred defense to run but can run any of them on any given Sunday.

Yes, it's not only the sack and pressure totals that are exciting, but the number of defensive players who were stepping up and making BIG plays.

Shaq, Brown, Burns, Reddick, Haynes, YGM, D-Jack, Hartsfield, Luvu.... so many guys had GREAT days.  I didn't actually focus much on Chinn, but he had a bunch of pressures. I'm sure I'm forgetting some names too.  Jaycee played fine, DaQuan Jones looks to be a great addition.  Carter was solid....

This looks like it could be a pretty complete defense.  A shame about Hartsfield's injury with Bouye still out next week.  We need some depth at Nickel.  Play dropped off when Hartsfield went out, Burris switched and Chandler came in.

@Jon Snow, you're exactly right.

5 different Panthers were in on sacks -- this is a versatile team effort, not dependent on just 1-2 edge rushers.

Did anyone notice who was rushing on that play (1st and Goal, inside 3 minutes left)

when Brown and YGM crushed Wilson?  Bet you can't even guess.

4 man front: Luvu, Brown, YGM, Haynes. Not a Burns or Reddick in sight.

That's a wide variation of players for Snow to choose from.

Yeah I said in another thread I know it was Jets but we probably had the best defensive performance by far yesterday than any other team. I would put Cardinals and Steelers up there as well tough teams they beat on the road.

Jameis crumbles and makes horrible decisions under pressure if the front 7 comes to play we can take this one.

He did at Tampa so I hope so...I legitimately wonder about his eye surgery too. That can honestly make a huge difference if he was playing with poo eye this whole time as well. I was one of those people that didn't  know he had bad vision until I had surgery on it.

Their OL usually does well against us and he can actually throw it deep unlike Brees the last couple years. It'd be just like th ose fugin asshole stank waters to get Winston and not skip a beat for 10 more years yet.
