Burns

Burns was great yesterday.  His immediate blow up sack of Wilson changed their protections.  Notice how often he was drawing double teams, opening things up for the rest of the team.  We had six sacks, which is pretty darn good.  Could have been more, but that's always the case.

Zach Wilson had to run for his life, yet his insane arm talent  was able to keep them in the game.  If the Jets can build an oline for him, he's going to be a good one.

Such a trolling OP.

Sacks are not the only thing he does.  First, he moved the QB off his mark a lot.  Second, he is the focus of the offense, so he allows others to get good matchups. Finally, one sack per game, if that is all he does, is a 17-sack season.

I will take it.

YGM is the DE we should be criticizing.  He made a play, but the 2 point conversion was all him.

YGM was great, he made a ton of good plays. 1 blunder on the 2 point conversion doesn't negate all that.

Let's talk about Burns.

I made a post in preseason about him not finishing plays. Once again he left us wanting.

He got a alot of pressure yesterday but only finished once. It just seems like the guy can't get a QB on the ground once his hands on him.

He absolutely should have had 2 sacks but probably 3.

Now I know a lot of you love pressure and I do too but not getting a guy on the ground leads to busted TDs ,1st downs, clock stopping and at a minimum no loss of yards.

The guy has got to become Lamar Lathon or Kevin Greene soon.

Yes he gets pressure but I'll try to put it in a way you might understand.

If you're broke and have a 9/10 GF and you almost get her off all the time but don't quite get her there how long do you think she'll be your GF?

He was literally held on every play.

Zach Wilson was more slippery than a KY wrestling match yesterday. Give the guy some credit. We were all over him all day but he's a tough cat to corral.

Are you talking the state or teh jelly? After a few moments of not so sober self deliberation, I don’t know why a Kentucky wrestling match would be considered ‘slippery’ but somehow it makes sense..

I honestly believe we just got to give Wilson some credit here. I don't get the Wilson bashing. Dude looked very good all things considered. He made a few guys miss. Reddick looked pretty shocked after Zach broke one of his tackles.

People just like football, they can't evaluate players outside of stats. I had so many people bring up Wilson's stats at the game and I kept trying to explain the the throws had terrific attributes, Darnold proves how bad the coaching sucked for the Jets.

Let's try this a different way, then. All things Huddlers have said of the following players:

Luke Kuechly - jumps on piles, racks up tackles but doesn't do much
Cam Newton - inaccurate passer, not a real leader, doesn't win in the clutch
Brian Burns - gets to the QB but can't sack him
Christian McCaffrey - we don't win when he plays, goes down too easily

Don't forget that he's too small to play in a 4-3 and that we should trade him to a better fit, LOL!

Totally agree on that. I tried to explain to someone how good Mahomes looked in the Super Bowl. lol! Got to factor in that he was running for his life and was still making good plays, regardless if the guy on the other side of the ball was or not. Looking at the stats don't tell the whole story. We were in Wilson's face on like 75% of his drop backs. We had over 30 pressures. He handled it well in my opinion.
