Post Jets Game - Biggest areas of concern

Held to 19 points against the undisputed worst team in the nfl at home. The oline actually wasn't quite as bad as we had prepared ourselves for. Certainly not in comparison to the Jets. Darnold was only sacked once. Playcalling needs much more consistency if we hope to win eight or more games.

Still OL. Offense's biggest problem today was the line, not Joe Brady. Brady could do better scheming around the weakness there, yes. But there were too many plays disrupted by the OL sucking, and despite McCaffrey's good YPC we couldn't get much going in the run game early to open up the passing game and take some of the pressure off of the OL in the pass rush -- McCaffrey willed his way to a lot of those yards.

Seems like everything is designed for Sam to get the ball out in 2 seconds which does go back to the OL and the WR's catching in pretty tight coverage. He needs to scheme up more YAC plays if this is the way it's gonna be

Coaching, plain and simple.

Brady - terrible play calling, especially in the red zone and second half

Rhule - punting twice from the 33 and putting his FB experiment in the game on a crucial play from the 3 yard line resulting in a TO.  Also for not solving the kicking situation, resulting in a missed XP.  Easily left 7 points on the field.   Also got out coached in the second half

Oh the other big glaring thing is even though after he settled down Darnold looked good, but he was throwing to the primary/first read on every play. Even the check downs to CMC were scripted. When he has to start going through the progression or is facing a good secondary he really needs to stop staring down his first read.

Consistency, finishing drives and ball play calling. I know Darnold is still building chemistry with his receivers, but Brady has to find a way to be confident that Darnold can connect with all those receivers. We have too much talent on offense to have only scored 19 points against the Jets. Yes, it is a win, and I'll take it, but we were up 16-0 (should have been 24-0) and was rolling in the first half. The second half was a loss, luckily the defense just held on. Panthers have to play for 4 quarters! Consistency!

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
