connor @ mlb and Beason @ wlb

Although, I am sure that this whole thread will be decried as "stupid". This would actually not be a bad idea, but it is too late in the season to ask one of your best players to switch positions.

If Davis is not re-signed then this would possibly be a good way to get our best players on the field. Especially in this type of D, where your Will LB is your "playmaker". Connor is talented but does not have quite enough athleticisim to play OLB, he is better in the middle. Beason would probably be a better fit in this D at Will, because he is a big time playmaker.

However, taking Beason out of the MLB position would be risky because he is one of the best in the league. It would probably benefit him in the long run though.

While Beason is a wonderful athelete and one of the best in the league at what he does, his skill set is rather dependant upon the other players around him doing their jobs well (see: his production with no solid interior line earlier in the season). Being in the middle, the offense has to deal with the rest of our defense leaving him clean to do what he does best. This works well with Beason's natural leadership and physical abilities making MLB the perfect posistion for him. Move him to the outside and it would become more about personal production rather than team production and, while I think he would do well, I would rather him lead from the center where I think he would feel more comfortable and be more productive and valuable.

It would work and probably work well...with a whole offseason planning on it.

See, I disagree. It would require Beason to build every defensive series around him (in our current scheme), where as from the middle he builds the defense around the rest of his players. He can be a more effective leader from the middle and that is the quality that, in my mind, sets him apart and makes him elite.

    • What's wrong with what he wants to do? Going to the wrong organization can ruin your career. Many of you would do the same if you could dor your son's.
    • I think they should just end the drama and tell him he's playing for his next team. Full stop. This week to week "do they, don't they", "will they, won't they" stuff is crazy.  Maybe Shanahan will trade one of their 3rds for him rather than pay Purdy the big dollars--he's certainly on the list of coaches I think would say, "They're just not using him right". Plus Lynch already knows the Panthers' price list. Bryce can head back home to California and Carolina can continue its neverending quest to replace Cam.
