Like who?
Most really good FA QBs don’t make it to market unless they are really old.

I just think sooner or later we need to draft our guy.

Yep. All those pending FAs who are actually good will end up being re-signed or at worst franchised. Good QBs simply don't hit FAs unless they're old or have significant injury concerns.

Howell ain't gonna be there in the 2nd. NFL talent evaluators watch games. They don't see a preseason top 10 struggling and just assume the QB is having a "down year".

correct, but he isn't guaranteed to be the 1st or 2nd QB off of the board either, which could be good for us.  I'm think there is going to a good bit of variance among the top 4-5 QBs among teams this year.

I'm not sure there is a QB in this class that would have been top-4 QB last year, but at the time i could see QB 3 or 4 falling to that 10-14 range.

In reality you can't get caught up in this year vs last year vs next year talk, at the end of the day you evaluate the QBs in front of you and go from there.

If you don't have a franchise QB you have to try, its not about finding a guy you are 100% right about, its about finding a guy that you think has a good enough chance to be worth the gamble.

What we should do is just bite the bullet and draft a QB. I think it should be Howell but everyone has a different guy they like especially this year where's there's no clear cut number 1 or 2 guy everyone just seems to be on a similar level. What I fear will do is either sign another bum veteran in FA or give the 49ers something for Jimmy G just to see him get hurt after week 4 and have to waste another season.

The best truly available veteran QBs that would be willing to come to Charlotte is very limited.  I can see maybe Dalton, Jimmy G, Nick Foles, Marriott, Trubiski, I mean, there’s next to nothing next year and most of them are as much if not worse journeyman than Teddy.  Wilson, Rogers, etc. aren’t happening.

Reach be damned, we need to scout this upcoming class high and dry to see if one clicks.  If we’re sitting at let’s say #13 and those top 2-3 linemen are gone, you have to look at Howell, Ridder, Strong, etc.

Watching another QB class come and go and missing out on the next potential Allen, Mahoney, Dak, Herbert, etc. will be tough.

Hell, I’d take a Hurts or Mills type pick at this point and throw them out there.  QB & line focus with a new offensive system/OC.

We’ve only taken a shot at Grier in the 3rd and that’s it since Cam.  There’s no way we go into 2022 with one of those scrub journeymen above and nothing else.

Close your eyes and picture Howell or pickett behind a line made up of garbage free agents or 4rth and 5th rounders.   Jesus if that doesnt get you hard I am not sure what does

There will be FA options, you just have to pay for them. I’d rather spend money on that than another $15 million Sam or $20 million Teddy journeyman QB. Go pick up Cam Robinson, Scherff, Armstead, Teller, or Connor Williams. Work in BC and Brown. Herbert and Burris (injury aside) played with terrible lines their first year. You have to have a QB period. Give Darnold a better line and he will just hold the ball longer and continue to make terrible decisions. Having to watch him again next year will be a tough sell for the fans.

We've tried the FA options for years.  It doesnt work.  It just doesnt.  Why spend a ton of money on free agents and get wrapped up in cap hell when you simply can draft them and build from there?

We would have to overpay for whatever garbage players we get.  Couple that with having to resign Reddick, Jackson, Gilmore and new deals for Burns and Moore.

You cannot build a team like that

We overspend for lower level FAs like Erving , Elf, and Paradis all with injury concerns. Sometimes you have to pay premiums for s premium product. Drafting a QB gives you 4-5 years with a QB on a rookie deal. That allows you to pay more for talent around him. Once you have your guy you start drafting and developing players to replace them after your QB gets paid.

Who will be a free agent in the off season that is going to hit the market that you like?

I named 5 in one of the posts you quoted. Cam Robinson (average), Armstead (elite), Sherff (elite), Teller (solid), and Connor Williams (average to above average). Orlando Brown is set to become one, but I’m sure the Chiefs lock him up. DJax would be a luxury to resign. I wish we traded him or Bouye before the deadline. With Horn coming back and Taylor starting to play great we won’t need Bouye, DJax, and Gilmore to get paid. I’d personally like Gilmore as a vet presence out of the 3, but I’m not sure his price tag matches his age.

Armstead will be 31 and expensive and I doubt the Saints let him walk.  Scherff makes close to 20 million this year and again will be 30.  Same as the other guys.  So my point is we would have to break the bank to get this guys to come and they are in the twilight of their careers.  You have to draft well and ride that wave.  You simply cannot build an oline through free agency.  It.Just.Doesnt.Work

Browns picked up Conklin and he is playing great, Rams Whitworth, Niners Trent Williams, Chiefs Thuney, there are plenty examples of veterans coming in and helping. We would still have Moton (who we drafted) and players like BC, and Brown who can hopefully develop. It won’t be a total overhaul, but we need a couple solid players to pair with Moton to make our line competitive. We won’t go from bottom tier to top, but hopefully we can get in the middle and work our way up,

We have to replace 4 out of 5.   And for all of the good examples you gave the bad is infinitely more.
