ESPN Analytics' simulation. You're not gonna like it...maybe

The only resemblance between the two is the college jersey they wore. It's like comparing Baker Mayfield and Sam Bradford.

That's what I was thinking.   They dont have similar skillsets at all.  I have thought for a year or two that Howell reminds me exactly of young drew brees, even the negatives.

I don’t know which is more laughable. The fact that some nerds simulated 20,000 madden games to make their projections with or the fact that some users here are getting triggered at Matt Rhule because of it.

Some of these sims have been fairly accurate for projecting winners etc in the past. There is no way in fug we are the worst team in the league though. Absolutely no chance.

I think we're a PJ Walker away from the bottom, if you get what I'm saying.

I don't see Brees. I think the Baker Mayfield comparisons are pretty apt. I chuckle that some people consider that an insult.  I think Howell is more level headed though and throws a more accurate deep ball. Deep ball accuracy is Howell's #1 attribute.

If it went down like this then the Darnold experiment failed spectacularly. I could see us Howell'ing at #1 and howling at #33 as the Jets are on the clock with some tempting OL prospects still on the board.

I will have a Sam Howell jersey literally minutes after I see they’re available if he becomes a Panther.  It would be a dream come true to your boy CashNewton and Sam honestly as well I imagine…he grew up a Panthers fan.

Carson Strong is also one of the guys to watch out for.  His deep ball & accuracy is a thing of beauty.  He's got the size, needs to develop quicker progressions but leading Nevada over Cal AT Berkeley.

Could be the one to trade up for from a mid-1st round pick.

The top pick would be nice but I don't see us being nearly bad enough for that. The rebuild talk is a convenient excuse when needed. If we were truly in a rebuild we would have drafted our quarterback and let him take his lumps. Throwing money and draft picks at Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Darnold behind a mediocre offensive line isn't rebuilding it's just treading water. We hope Sam can get it done but just call it what it is 🤷‍♂️

I don't know why ESPN publishes this crap.  I suppose the Jacksonville fans loved it since Trevor is going to lead them to the playoffs, the Seahawk fans are like "we're going 0-9 to start the season," and the Bill fans are jumping through tables for that Super Bowl they are winning this season.......

Why do we even play the games when people get so thrilled by these projections.  We can "play" football year round this way.

    • Easily. To be able to plug in a backup LT without much drop off from your starter? That could mean the difference between playoffs or sitting at home in January. Good/serviceable smart young and healthy LTs that won’t lose you a ball game at reasonable $$ don’t just come along every day. Everyone talks about the most important positions on a football team… backup LT is in the top 10.  Picture next year… the team is scrappy and competitive, 4 and 3 record, second place in the South. Morale is good. devastating run game that Let’s our marginal defense get plenty of rest. We play the Bucs and win, going to 5 and 3, but we lose Ickey to a high ankle sprain. Atl loses that week and are now at 5 and 3 as well. There is no Ickey and no BC because we let him go… and we go in to Atl the next week for a battle of first in the south. Week after that is the Jets…. Now they lose both by 10 and 3, respectively, and fall to 5 and 5 going in to their bye week. Atl is at 7 and 3. Out of typical Panthers desperation, they try to rush Ickey back in to the lineup with a saints game coming up…  Back to good old Panthers football, always playing catchup. Another season at .500 and the fans sadly rejoice in mediocrity, when playoffs were in reach. This team always overestimates its ability to pick up quality o line depth in the draft or FA and it always blows up in their faces. Like Chuba, I see him as being part of the core that Dan is trying to build. Work on his contract now and see if we can come out with something mutually beneficial. I’d consider 3 yrs at $25m to be very fair.
    • it would be great to have "double trouble" again, I even had a T- shirt for Williams and Stewart and the double trouble logo, was a great time to be Panthers fan. We shall see...
    • Sounds like a plan. Those are the teams we should be mimicking! lol
