Gross on IR, Charly Martin from PR to 53 man roster

Well, we do know that Jackson got some chances to play at Tampa and it didn't work out, so this shouldn't be that surprising...especially since his major problem was ball security. It don't make any difference how fast and talented your are if you drop the damn ball and can't take a hit. Hopefully, he will put that stuff behind him and get better, but meanwhile, welcome to the team Charly Martin.

BTW, Fox didn't hesitate to put Sutten on the field right after he was called up from the PC, so I don't know where people are getting the notion that he won't use martin if he's good enough to play.

Except Sutton was never on our practice squad, after Green Bay waived him we picked him up off waivers and he was put on our 53 man roster. Now I will give props where they are due, Sutton was active on sunday and played as KOR, while Goodson was inactive, so Fox sees Sutton as an improvement then Goodson right now.

hopefully ol' jake will flashback to having proehl in the lineup and target him like he did in the old days. just see a 6' white boy running around out there and throw it to him.

it's a shame that 81 is already taken. that would have been too perfect.

Doesn't sound like I did. If Jackson is afraid to get hit, he's completely useless to us at this point.

I think you are..why because fox has been praising jackson..they liked him out of college but jackson is raw..and they prob felt he could not play Special teams and he did not understand the offense yet...I dont think martin getting called up is because they felt he was better than jackson.but martin was ready and jackson was not.I hope both can play good..

I'm pretty sure if Martin is ready and Jackson isn't... that makes Martin >>>>> Jackson. Could Jackson become the next Steve Smith? Sure... but if Martin's getting the call right now, he's obviously better at the moment.

I would say he is more prepared..rite now for what the panthers want.then jackson.but i would not say he is better:D...I know the panthers are high on jackson.and fox likes to take his time with WR.I would be supprised if martin gets active in a game.

I would be surprised as well... it just seems like Jackson has several knocks on him and this kid doesn't. Hopefully they can both be future, solid contributors.

Gantt on martin

They promoted WR Charly Martin from the practice squad to replace LT Jordan Gross (who went on IR).

That's as much of a special teams move at this point as anything. The Panthers haven't had a WR contribute in the kicking game in some time, and Martin's a more physical presence than Kenny Moore.

But don't sleep on this kid. He had a great camp with the Chargers, and many there thought he should have made the team.

On signing wide receiver Charly Martin from the practice squad: He's a guy that's been working real hard. He's out here practicing every day. He's definitely caught the coaches' eyes as far as what he's done on the practice field working against our first-unit defense. He's a bigger guy that could help in the kicking game as well as at receiver.

    • I know that. I'm not predicting it. Just putting the information out there so I will have receipts for later on when this dude turns into a stud at this level too.  It's kinda bittersweet, he'd help our offense out a great deal, but I'm wanting a QB next draft, so adding another weapon for Bryce is counterproductive in that regard.
    • I'm not sure if NO will be as QB aggressive as some assume.  They may focus on landing a top line prospect and slow rolling the rebuild for next year.  Could see them roll the dice in R3-4 to compete with Rattler, maybe a Howard fit.     I think the QB starved team's just take the gamble the Saints don't want Sanders, and target a mid to late 1st pick for a trade up to land him.  Still don't think Milroe or Shough are going R1.   But I think what may get lost in the trade up talk is about it being QB specific. A top team trying to get over the top could be the juicy trade (or two) that happens in round 1. Something I've flirted with is how aggressive Buffalo could be.  They have the ammunition for a big trade up, and I think Golden would pair super well with Coleman.  They need to cut to the chase and get playmakers there for Allen.  So yeah, love the idea of a BUF/ATL trade where they move up for him.  I'm even thinking about LAR getting aggressive for Warren or Loveland.  Imagine McVay rolling into 2026 with that added piece for a future QB...
    • Unfortunately, Ice, there are some blueprints of hybrid LB/edge players who were busts too--Everette Brown is one, but he was forced into a 4-3 DE role here.  I would say that the 3-4 defense has a lot of wiggle room for hybrids at the OLB/Edge position--I am just not seeing Walker as an elite player at any one role.  Coverage?  Rushing the passer from the 9?  And at his size... If we take him, I hope that I am wrong because there are some personalities I really would love to be on this roster.  Jihaad Campell is one.  Bech is another.
