Slye is Gone

If you look at average kicker salary Ryan Santoso is actually making slightly more than Slye was which is still bottom of the league. So I don't understand the anger like he was overpaid and overrated. We took a chance on youth and affordability. I wish the guy luck but this is a common story around the league maybe he'll get another chance somewhere else down the line.

Is Santoso from around here? I’m fairly sure this guy was the manager at Chewy’s the last time I went.

ETA: before all the huffing and puffing, I believe he’s the only of Indonesian descent player in the NFL.

seems like a bad gamble.

He was more of a punter than kicker in college….and only punted his last 2 seasons.    He has bounced around the league for a half decade and one team let him be a kickoff specialist for part of a season (and he was bad at that).

if you are going to gamble on a young promising leg….you need to a actually find one.

You don't know anything about Santoso. So why assume he's not good?

We do know things about Santoso.

He kicked at Minnesota.  He wasn’t a good FG kicker in college…they replaced him on FGs and he only punted and kicked off his last two seasons.

He has bounced around the league for a half decade trying to kick.  Titans let him be a kickoff specialist for part of a season….and he had a very low TB %.

why would anyone assume that he can be an efficient FG and KO guy for the Panthers based off that?

How about we go with this fact? He did enough to earn this shot. How about we wait until he fails to roast him?

You really have become a grumpy old man lately. Sorry to see that.

    • The NFL needs to stop overdrafting these types and let them do what they should do - play another year of college ball.
    • there's also something to be learned here.  In the last few years, Atlanta has drafted a TE and a RB in the top 10.  Earlier in the year, Allgeier had more yards than Bijan.  And the TE has under performed and doesn't seem interested.   I don't like spending Top 10 picks on those two positions.  Run CMC paid off as a top 10 pick.  Not all running backs do.  And we have a segment who want us to take a TE this year at 8.  Admitted, Warren does more than Pitts, who was supposed to be a major matchup problem with his speed and height.  Maybe he could be with a better OC and QB.    Every pick is a risk.  I'd rather take that risk on a position that affects the game more.  Exceptions granted for the right guy.  Warren may be that guy, but I want a playmaker like Jalon or a trade back.
    • Overview An upside prospect with loads of traits, Williams simply needs more snaps and more time to fill out his frame. He is an explosive athlete who uses his exceptional length to keep tackles and tight ends at the end of his punch. He plays a little too tall at the point and needs to get stronger to shed blocks more quickly, but he plays with good physicality in the trenches and is never pushed around. He’s still learning moves and counters but already has a big bull rush, good secondary effort and the closing burst to become a sack blanket in the pocket. He’s not there yet, but Williams’ improvement to become an impactful 4-3 base end feels inevitable.  https://www.nfl.com/prospects/mykel-williams/32005749-4c45-4914-9119-2392d0f4f0ef
