Robby Anderson: The Panthers are who I want to be with for my future

Robby Anderson put together the most productive season of his career for the Panthers in 2020 and now he’s set to be with the team through 2023.

Anderson signed a two-year extension with a reported $20 million guaranteed on Tuesday. He said after the day’s practice that the Panthers have been a right fit for him.

“This is ideally [who] I want to be with for my future,” Anderson said, via Alaina Getzenberg of the Charlotte Observer. “Since I came here it felt like I was finally in my dream.

“I feel the focus of the team, and what we’re working toward, I want to have that security to know I’m here for the long run, so I can commit to it fully. And the coaches, the organization, the city, I just genuinely love being here.”

Anderson had plenty of familiarity with the team’s staff, having played under head coach Matt Rhule and his position coach Frisman Jackson at Temple. Plus Anderson and quarterback Sam Darnold have built-in chemistry from their shared time with the Jets.

“Everything across the board was pretty much all check marks, not just the money part of it,” Anderson said.

Anderson was one of two Carolina receivers to eclipse 1,000 yards receiving last year, the other being D.J. Moore. Anderson set new career highs with 95 receptions and 1,096 yards. He had three touchdown receptions in 2020.

Okay, I like that. If this was coming out while the negotiations were ongoing, I'd be more cynical and assume he was just trying to get the fans on his side as a negotiating ploy. The classic, "I'd really like to stay here, but at the end of the day, it's a business decision," thing. i.e. "Blame the front office if I don't stick around, not me."  I think there's at lease an ounce of sincerity if this is coming the day after the deal is locked in.

If we can keep building this thing up with a reclaimed Darnold and a somewhat fortified line, could be pretty dope.

There is no source. I keep hounding these dumb fugs for sources and no one has ever produced one. As I said in the signing thread, this was a conspiracy invented out of thin air that our lower life forms latched on to. 

I get it when the media rumor mill starts swirling but with the Robby not wanting here schtick I have never seen from anyone but social media trolls and Huddlers. I'd love to see a single credible source that said he was unhappy here or planning to leave. I'm all ears.

I’ll have to dig way back (huddle vets, not panther vets. My bad). And it wasn’t necessarily said outright, but it’s when the reports were Robby wanted out. It was shortly after the trade for Darnold. There were a few “it looks like Robby wants out of Carolina. I bet I know why.” and “Robby has already had to play with Darnold. I don’t blame he for wanting to go somewhere else” comments being littered at that time.
