It's just insane the Panthers didn't bring in any kickers to compete with Slye in training camp.

not really as long as they make moves now. 

kickers are really fungible and several starter quality kickers end up cut every year, like this one

it's not like anyone is worried about the kicker gelling with the team or whatever

every year there are like 1 or 2 incredible kickers, 1 or 2 dreadful ones, and everyone else is replaceable.

Pineiro isn't the most reliable guy either, and I don't think he's got as much distance as Slye on his kickoffs.

There may be other options. We could look at him I suppose, but there are reasons why he's bounced around the league.

The kicker we brought in, Matt Ammendola, is now the starting Jets kicker, FWIW. 

Currently 3/3 in FG's and XP's in the preseason. Long of 54.

We had Lirim Hajrullahu around for part of the offseason too (he's now with the Cowboys) and give a tryout to Zane Gonzalez but didn't sign him.

The narrative that we haven't looked at other kickers isn't too accurate.

Correct. We will see if we missed out on an opportunity to improve. I think Gantt's article was telling in that the staff thinks he is better than the fans and media.....and statistics.

But, Rhule also pointed that position out as one needing work, so perhaps they are learning. That is my one big hope with the Rhule era, they do seem to be decisive when they realize they have made mistakes and quickly attempt to correct them.

We will stick with Slye which is dumb as hell. Pinero definitely isn’t the answer, there is a reason he keeps getting cut.

I sure hope so. This guy isn't the one to go for.  The goal is a notable improvement.
